Decided that on the off road motor, that I will weld up the diffs, the LSD on the rear is just not up to mud baths, and the live diff on the front is no good either, welded diff in 4 wheel will give me genuine 4 wheel drive, in 2 wheel the front diff will not be connected so cannot see any problem there and so much cheaper than any other method, Rick

Ay, fine and dandy in the wet mud stuff but does have a tendancy to drift the arse round just when you didn't want it too :lol
Pay n play sites usually fine though:rolleyes:

That is the only place it will be used, trailer there and back, but winching in mud is hard work, and when I see some of the other guys going round obviously with diff locks, I want to do that but without the expense, but hey great fun whatever, Rick

Hi Rick, won't welding up the front diff, and say having the front hubs engaged, ie not auto hubs, cause problems with steering with a welded front diff.:nenau

Best regards,
Rustic

Yeh welding the front will be a pig as it will try and pull straight on the turns

Get a lokka in there tbh

It'll be fine in that mud hole Rick frequents :lol As long as the ground is loose it'll just be a bit harder work for the steering box

And the steering linkages.:nenau

Welding up the rear diff seems fair enough, but doing the front as well seems a bit OTT. With effectively a locked centre diff (ie no diff), and a locked rear, I would have thought traction wouldn't really be an issue. Ok, so one of the fronts might spin, but I've seen Landies plug through some horrific mud even with their open front/rear diffs.

I find that 95% of the time I use 2 wheel and only select 4 when in real need, with a fixed front diff steering will not be a problem in 2 or 4 as when in 4 traction will be poor anyway, and if it does not work then I have a spare front diff to replace it with, Rick

Welding is cheap but the landies were probably running good mud tyres like Simex :naughty

my lsd has packed in on my offroader from abuse and its getting welded next weekend. i would be reluctant to do the front tbh but if you have a spare whats the worst that can happen! whatever you do - BEAT THE LANDYS !!!

if you weld the front and still use 2wd surely it still will be hard to turn unless you disengage the freewheel hub locks.

Mine are the standard Autos, so if the front shafts are not driven the hubs will not be engaged, so diff will not be doing anything, locked or free, Rick
