Heated seats - overated not worth the bother !!

All three of our motors have heated front seats and TBH I do not rate them and would not pay a penny for them as an extra.

I find that they quickly become uncomfortably hot even the Merc ones that have three heat settings.

When it is winter I usually forget to switch them on first thing as am too busy defrosting etc.
When I do use them after a few minutes my bum is on fire !
When I do not need them in the summer I sometimes catch the switch and wonder why my bum is hot.
Not convinced they do the leather trim much good in the long run unless you are an obsesive leather conditioner feeder.
The heating elements certainly on Mercs are prone to failure !
I have found leather seats show wear easily and whilst I like the leather look again give me decent old style Tex trim anytime.
Horses for Courses maybee..........

The higher you go the faster they seem to wear, I have those seats Alex but mine are immaculate and have black plastic :thumb2

Common for them to go there on every vehicle there is. I repair them on just about every make and model summit you'll never stop no matter what they're covered in. And being an upholsterer I wouldn't choose leather on anything full stop it doesn't ware any longer than decent fabric you have to treat it or looks like 100year old granny face. hot in summer. freezing in winter. its slippery. hate working with it and bloody expensive for good stuff (not the crap you buy on ebay) give me fabric any day

Oh. No point asking fire a quote to get mine fixed up then? [emoji51]

By all means I'm just saying id never have it but the opposit end of spectrum is some would only have leather

Think your a bit far away tho

Does it help wearing leather trousers? [emoji13]

You wear trousers?

:lol

Like I said I find leather great for cleaning up after offroading or when I've been shooting or working on the farm.

With a lifted truck with no sidesteps you're always gonna wear the driver's seat on that side :nenau

I like my heated seats. I'm not too sure about the leather but I like the look of the interior. It is too hot on hot days, and the heaters have been on constantly for the last month or so.

Cheers chappy :thumb2

Having looked at the wiring it seems pretty easy, if it ends up being too slippery I'll get covers for off-road :)
