Has anyone fitted a intercooler to a pre intercooled engine?? I have a 1996 2.7TD and would like to fit an intercooler. I have managed to obtain an intercooler from a 2.7TDI but it looks like Im going to need quite a few more bits. Any help /advice would be appreciated. Oh just to let you know I am a new member and find this club really helpful

i know shark1e took out his air con to fit one in a mistral but not sure if he fitted it after?

im not sure whether you will need the ecu remapping as it might not be use to an intercooler being fitted, but i could be wrong

The existing map and sensors should cope quite well with a change, though they might struggle to supply enough fuel under certain conditions. The good thing about a diesel is it runs lean 90% of the time anyway so you won't do any harm, and you should get an improvement. Think I'd have been tempted to get an intercooler off something else and front mount though, you're going to need a new bonnet and will still have the intercooler in a poor position.

Many thanks for the response, I must admit I had thought about front mounting an intercooler rather than the one on the top of the engine. I may be able to front mout the one that I have got, I like a challenge!!!

hi dodge, i've got a custom fit intercooler on my '95' mav and have no probs with it. i can take some pics and e-mail them to you if you would like. i warn you now its a bit of an 'agricultural' custom fit

Sharkie had a front mounted intercooler made up, and removed the condensor unit for his AC to allow the intercooler to fit. I'm not sure if he needed to get any changes done to ECU or engine settings though.

Hi Dodge  if you do down the top mounted route for the intercooler like the TDI's, instead of replacing your bonnet for a later one you could just cut a nice hole in the bonnet & fit a fibreglass bonnet scoop off say a sunny pulsar

hi dodge, just e-mailed pics to you. let me know if you don't get them

t-jay. I will check my e-mails in the morning I will let you know if I dont get them. many thanks

t-jay I have sent you an e-mail with my correct e-mail address, sorry I made a mistake.

Could you please resend the pictures

thanks

good, are they any use to you? do you see what i mean by 'agricultural'

t-jay, yep a bit agricultural but never the less quite interesting, once again thanks. I will send som pics of my installation once completed.
