i looked at the shogun intercooler it looked very promising plus it has a fan already so you could do that and have a scoop in a cooler looking place

Shogun i/c is waaay too small, go for a front mount if you are going to do one. Bigger is almost always better. (too big and you will get too much lag)

Thread hijack, sorry.
Timbo, could my horrid lag be due to "too much" cold air being rammed in?
A question asked a lot way back when extreme started his scoop.

No, you can't be too cold. Only too cold when water vapour in the air condenses out within the cylinders and washes the oil off the bores- this would need to be VERY cold though like close to 0 deg C - unlikely around here, but possible in the antartic or where marine engines use fresh water intercooling.

With regard to your lag, at what revs do you start to get boost, and is it any better with the roof scoop rubber tube disconnected at the air filter housing? (wondering if plumbing to the scoop is restrictive??)

You really need to get a boost gauge hooked up ASAP so you can see what is going on...

i dont think there is anything we can do . that will ram too much air into these motors. the turbo is way more powerfull than anything we can do or put on.

extreme air is def not restricting air, so its not that either. if anything its making air in easier as we are running on 3" pipes standard opening is a hole around 1.5"

you might just need to tweek the waste gate or as i suspect one of your hoses to the gate valves are crossed.

Intercooler fan

hay i think some one has a fan on there intercooler.. sorry cant remember who though..

'Twas me----or at least I was one of them. Fitted it to my 98 T2 and it made it far more lively when setting off after ticking over for a period in traffic jams etc. No noticeable improvement in fuel economy but a more responsive motor.
