Hi guys, fitted my snorkel today and i have to say what should in theory been a straight forward fitting job turned out to be a bit of a pain in the arse...

I removed my outer arch and the inner arch cover, and found some nasty tin worm....great start
The secured the template which was pretty inaccurate and i have to say it was a little bit of guess work before i begun drilling.
Drilled the holes, used a hole saw to cut the large hole, a few modifications to the holes and the snorkel was slotted into place and secured, then i found i couldnt get the rubber pipe on the back of it behind the wing, ended up removing the wing.
I then cut the inner wing hole with the angle grinder to allow the pipe through and secured it all in place and replaced the wing.
I arent completely sure about how to secure the top bracket on the snorkel as it sits on the rubber next to the glass, i did find that its sat firmly up against the pillar and when the door is shut it holds it nice and secure.
Although it was a bit of a pain i am impressed with it now.
I just need to decide how to connect it to the airbox, a bit of flexi pipe i think...

nice work, shame about the tin worm but on the wings thats par for the course on these trucks,,,,,i recognise them magnets ;)

I may keep my eye out for another wing...

Yes i used them for fitting vinyl....:bow

Looking very nice. That wings got plenty of life in it!

I agree. that wings got 2 years left at least. nice job.
have you connected it to the airbox yet?
im going test mine in 4 foot deep water next sunday. wish me luck:eek:

No havent connected it to airbox yet, gunna figure out my options tomorrow

Steve make sure you do a full check on the snorkel before doing your 4ft challenge
One leak can easily = one dead motor :augie

Check intercooler too, Also the drain in the airbox.

If it dies in the water do not even attempt to restart it in the water. Get pulled out. Then you got to take the glow plugs out etc to get any possible water out of the cylinders, check air filter etc etc

4 foot maybe a small exaggeration.
but it is certainly deep enough to flood the cab. so I may sling the carpets after:lol

Whats the best way to check the snorkel is sealed?
Yes i noticed the drain hole in the bottom of the airbox, easily sealed when i do the other bits.
I need to find a small piece of either metal or plastic tubing that is 76mm diameter then i can sort out how i am gunna attach it to the airbox....
Banshee what is that snorkel, it looks very different to mine, much longer and slightly taller?

The hole in the airbox should have a little gland in it. That lets water out but not in. Kind of handy as you'll be collecting a lot of water from your air/rain scoop :augie

Best get one from a scrap car then or Nissan stealers :thumbs
Cheapest thing to save your engine and MAF :thumb2

Just thinking aside, to test air intake leaks on an outboard, you spray something ? over the carb, with it running, and if the revs increase you have a leak.

So try WD40 over the joints, try some in the air intake to see what happens, to check the revs do actually increase... then work around the pipework.
Just a thought...
Never tried this myself, but I have used WD40 to start a diesel Vectra before:thumb2

Is there anyone out there that has this valve they would be prepared to sell me?
If I go to a breakers they will want to sell me the complete airboxi
