So a question I've been trying to find out the answer to for a long time - Where was my car sold from from new

I've a feeling Rustic will approve of this thread

I've taken a look at all of the paperwork that came with the car which I thought was pretty comprehensive but no clues in there.

My last thing to check was my Service Book in my folder in the car which I'd have presumed the first service would have been carried out by Ford but nope..... all private garages.

The reason that I wanted to find out was because I'd seen some cool retro "Dealer Sets" for sale from DMB Graphics. These are basically old school sets that comprise of x2 number plates with pre 2001 font and the dealers border and name etc at bottom, rear window sticker and tax disc holder all in the dealerships logos etc.

Seriosuly all retro ford fans should take a look at these;

I purchased the car from a guy in Cheshire who told me the previous lady owner was from Preston so I started to look through all the dealer sets from that area and choose my favourite. When I came across the Preston Evans Halshaw one the address on the Tax Disc holder stood out to me for some reason so out came all the invoices etc again and there it was!!!!!!

The address of the dealership Evans Halshaw, Garstang Road, Preston that was printed on the back of the tax disc holder was the same street in Preston that the first service was done on the car, only it had been done by a private garage.

I rang the garage on the off chance that they may still have records of the car and to my amazement they knew my car just from the registration as the old school mechanic who used to do the services on it had a real soft spot for it :D

I've since found out that the garage was about 5 units down from Evans Halshaw and that the reason she didn't have the services done there was because they were twice as expensive as this garage!!!! (Sounds familiar)

The Evans Halshaw garage on Garstang Road, Preston has now been sold and houses have been built on it as can be seen here be sure to look at all the pics!!!!!

Sad really as I'd have loved to have drove up there and relived a bit of history!!!!

So as a tribute to the old garage, I've ordered myself a Preston, Evans Halshaw set :D

I was on about where it was sold from :)

I'll continue the story

I've also been told giving Ford the VIN should be able to bring up this info however I tried 4 garages and they all said it couldn't be done

I bought mine from the Ford dealer in Cannock, " Churchbridge Motor Garage Ltd," I still have and still use the original Churchbridge tax disc holder too.
So any guesses as to how old that is lol...?:augie

When the M6 toll road was being planned Churchbridge motors actually closed down.

For those using the M6 toll, when you travel north and get to the Toll booths, this is where Churchbridge motors was located, give or take a hundred yards.

So hints as to where your first dealer was..
Tax disc holder
Name on number plate
Service book, normally has the details, but usually first service gives a clue, bus as pointed out, no guarantee.

Also in the early days, reg numbers were sold / allocated to the dealers in batches, so a Ford Fiesta or Sierra could have the next consecutive number to my Ford Maverick..

Interesting idea for a post.:thumb2
:clap:clap

The registration will give you the area it was registered in that will narrow it down

You can request information from the DVLA, there is a forum, which number ice forgotten. You fill it in, send away around £10 along with it, and they will send you copy's of everything they have on file for your vehicle. This will include previous owners, original registration forms etc

Just need to say on the forum you are a enthusiast searching your cars history.

I did that when I bought my previous r3mR trouble is a load of the information was in Japanese Symbols as it was an import. It was interesting that the three previous owners in the UK all lived locally within a 3 mile radius of where I lve and no one kept it for more than a year until I bought it and kept it for over 5 years !
I suspect it was either a money pit or they could not afford the fuel ?
