Thanks to Jonela for support in my time of Burgundian crisis (Ford Maverick) - still unresolved - may know later today if the garage has rebuilt the back axle, albeit that it will forever be without 4 X 4 capacity.

I have no idea why the locking mechanism failed on my way down. All I know is there's a lot of plate washers have been stripped out of the casing and an awful lot of time and angst trying to find a solution to getting the right sized thrust washer which, in mine ('N' reg) is a lot smaller than those suppplied on the correct part number by Nissan (Lons le Saunier).

Thanks also to a Englishman working there, ex-rallyer, who suggested making one to fit - I hope to God this is what my garagiste has been doing since Friday last - specially as I have to get to the return ferry in Calais for Saturday coming!!!

If I'd wanted to have a new rear diff - I could have shelled out 5,000 Euros and, no doubt, would have had to have waited 6 months for it to arrive.

Hope you get sorted at a reasonable price.Maybe too late but there is an internet site here in France called Leboncoin which has lots of breakers/private sellers with all kinds of 4x4 bits, perhaps you could find a complete axle(pont) for your car at a good price.

have just re read your other threads re the drive issue, and have to say I have not the faintest idea what is going on, even if your clutch plates were completely worn out it would not be an issue, you would just have a normal open diff, why all the rebuild? as for your front auto lockers you do not need them for road use unless in snow, so again where is the problem? what about the main gearbox and clutch are these OK? Rick

I smell another road trip coming on

Just been to Gt Yarmouth and back to pick up a new meat saw, do not think I will be going to France, but what are those wallies doing?????? Rick
