I put 20 litres of Costco's finest KTC cooking oil in and filled the tank with ordinary diesel (about a 70:30 ratio if the SWB tank is 72 litres)

It's been chilly here over the last few days, down to minus 4 and it started fine and runs great.

Is it best to mix some of the oil with diesel before putting it in the tank, or put it in and top off with diesel from the pumps?
Also thinking of throwing in the 0.15% acetone next time. It's like a chemistry lesson that gets me to work!

well done

i put oil in first then fill with diesel.. that mixes ok then

Hi all,
Iv'e been running on 50/50 for about 5yrs now, in the beginning i used to mix it in a 100 ltr drum and swirl it about before draining into 20ltr drums and then add some acetone about 100mls to every 20ltdrum, 5yrs on i pour 20ltrs of KTC cooking oil straight into the t2 and then 20ltrs of diesel and shake the t2 , neighbours think iv'e gone mad, but never had a problem, even in cold weat5her and thet2 stays out in all weathers.

So do you still acetone? Laurie Ash

Got my first tub for just under £19, so it's under a £1 a litre, ASDA diesel is £1.40.
Commuting well over 325 miles a week to and from work, it soon adds up. I'll be moving upto 50/50 once I get chance to go back to Costco.

thanks

that is a lo of milage i can see why your doing it have you thought aboiut a motor bike ? T2 cant be the best car for economical commutes

Tesco also sell 5ltr containers of veggie oil for less than £5.... use it quite a lot but tend to do straight diesel atm due to the cold?. I do 2=300 miles a week commuting (yes I do use a motorbike in the summer :thumb2) so every few quid a refill is always welcome!!

Just been to Costco tonight, also joined as I'm now eligible as I work for the NHS. Bought 100 litres of oil, under 95p per litre - bloke on the checkout asked if I was running a car off it :D

Since I filled up, I reckon I've done 290 miles (speedo/odo says 280, but I planned my trips on Google Maps. I have larger tyres fitted so that should allow for the discrepancy) and needed 48 litres to re-fill the tank.
That works out to 27.5 MPG - not too bad really, I rarely go over 55 on the motorway.

I also have a 50:50 mix in now as its relatively warm here, still about 6 Celsius - I'll see what happens in the morning. As it gets warmer I'll increase the ratio of oil:diesel.

Also, is it really as easy as undoing the 2 jubilee clips and a few screws to change the fuel filter? I'm going to change it this or next weekend as I'll of covered a good few miles on the veg oil.

My Tesco has been selling the round 5 litre containers for £6 with a buy two for £10 offer since before Christmas.

I'm way too scared of puting SVO in my car, I make my own BIO and have been running 100% through winter. The tesco oil I buy when i need to increase the quaility of a batch of high titrating oil.
