filling the transmission

tracked some GL4 down cheap, just wondering what the fill rate is, 5 litere..... 2 litres in transfer and 3 in gearbox?? how much do i put in each box?

i would fill gear box uptill it starts to come out of the filler/level plug the clue is in the name :lol think it should be around 5L

And how much did the transfer box take ?

And I presume they are both gl4 75/90 ?

I just filled them both until oil came out the fill plug, when I was doing it, I filled the gearbox with a cleaner and drive it slowly around the yard then flushed that out too, gets old swarf out and residue :thumb2

Ohh and both oils are the same for the gear box and trsfr box

Check as I think some of the newer terrano's had different oil in transfer box to that in gearbox could be wrong but just check first:thumbs

yes I have several owners manuals and one says auto transmission fluid for the transfer box, think this is to do with cold times and 4 wheel engages when in 2 wheel due to oil drag rotating front prop, Auto TF probably sorts this, Rick

where the oil is so thick it starts to turn things it shouldn't drags gears round so could engage 4 wd when not even selected :thumbs

For info - just changed my 2003 3ltr gearbox oil and it took 5ltrs.
