It is a lot quieter on the forum.

Unfortunately the Terrano and Patrol are slowly becoming rare. Some repairs are not economical anymore and a Terrano or Patrol gets replaced.

It seems that the forum hasn’t attracted that many Navara owners.

In general the X-trail or Qashqai are more SUV then offroader. As a result not many owners will come to a forum like this to share their stories about body lifts etc on those cars.

Also with the more modern SUV there are a lot more electronics involved and it can become quite complicated for the home mechanic.

Last but not least, these days most cars are leased and therefore it needs to be dealer maintained.

It is a great shame as I like to see the engineering fixes people come up with a home. For example Rick’s thread on the RD28T, he is clearly thinking outside the box and not just replacing parts.
 
I use faceache for al sorts , plus whatsapp and so on.
The big thing is it's so easy to do all on my phone. No need to upload pics and then link them back again etc
Easy to tag people into a question .
 
Yes it is quiet these days !

I still pop in now & again despite going over to the Jeep GC's, as has been said before the old Nisssan 4x4s were something you could try to fix yourself with a little help here. As an ageing build I guess there are fewer around so fewer new member. Not sure how much longer this site can survive in it's present format unless it adapts to cover other brands of 4x4 perhaps. I'm not suggesting we invite Landys but as folk here have morphed to brands such as Mitsibushi & Jeep I would like to see this forum become more multi-franchise.

I haven't found anything like the same responses to questions on other vehicle forums with the exception of the Honda-SOHC site. Were a good helpful bunch here with years of experience in many trades. I had help here when rewiring my house to name but one example.

Wendy & I still prefer to use the WJ even though it's slower and a far from perfect ride compared to the WK mk1. There is something about a utiltarian vehicle that has appeal - hence I guess the popuarity of the original VW Beetle when much more modern vehicles were available.

Yes I visit Facebook but it is riddled with idiots with naff all in the way of proper moderators to boot not to mention all the advertising dross.

Have to agree with Ted and Rick.

As I suggested a while ago it might be worthwhile to have a non car related section to the forum. I know that you have the “virtual pub” but I don’t feel this covers everything.

You could have a “members blogs” section in which members keep their blogs. Bit like the “vehicle projects” section but anything can be covered in your blog. Can be photo’s from things you do at work to rebuilding your house or even just your daily exploits. Seems to work well on another forum I am on.

Or a “Today at work” thread, which speaks for itself.

However all this does not attract new members to the forum. To keep the forum alive (and it would be a great shame if it doesn’t) we need to attract new members.

Maybe even make it non brand specific, ie “the 4x4 owners club”. I know that there is a general dislike to Land Rover owners :nenau but not many other 4x4’s around that do some actual offroading. At least with Landy owners on the forum the “Vehicle projects” section will go into overdrive. :sly

Most skill sets are transferable Rick what you know about Nissan 4x4 s can apply to lots of circumstances in other brands.

For example when I had cold starting issues last winter on my Jeep WJ I looked on here and read about seeing air in fuel pipes - that lead me to check my engine fuel lines that are clear plastic around the engine bay.

On the Jeep there is no fuel pump in the tank so its suction between the fuel tank & the low pressure fuel pump. I purchased new fuel pipes my garage fitted these two sets of pipes - it fixed it.
