yesterday afternoon a big lorry passed me on the A 47 .... as it passed me a big stone was thrown up from its wheels and hit my windscreen ..... its now chipped and cracked ...... ok its only about the size of a pound coin , but I have windscreen cover with my motobility car ........ so I rung motobility who told me to ring autoglass .......after approximately a 20 minute call on my mobile ( im on holiday ) ......they said to wait for a call from their operator .......im still waiting :( .........obviously cant really drive it in case it gets worse :(

If it's just a star, without long cracks radiating from it, you might be OK driving it - all depends how big it is. Have a star in the windscreen on my T2, must have been there for years. But only a small one, 5-6mm diameter, no cracks, and not penetrating to the inside of the window...

Take control Briggie

Take control just drive it until its done unless you have tracker monitor fitted who is to know plus you are on holiday.

Motorbility just want to hope it can be repaired, if there is a crack that's not something that can be repaired anyway. Even if it gets worse it's not as if the screen will fall out. I have known cracks to spread just from frost or being in the sun.

motobility said don't drive it until autoglass have repaired it

It is mobilities car, if you go out and involved in an incident, they will get to know... and will have written evidence that you were told not to drive it.:doh
So re plan your day, they might be sourcing a screen before they can commit to a time.

Give it an hour... if you haven't heard in that time call back.:thumb2

so ..... it got to 5pm today and still no call ...... so I rung motobility ..... who weren't very impressed ...... they told me to ring autoglass straight away ....... within 20 minutes of me ringing autoglass a technician arrived to mend my windscreen ...... but as soon as he put his gadget thingy on the screen it cracked ....... so now I have to wait for them to order a new windscreen :doh

just rung autoglass ( I don't think they like me :augie ) ....... they estimate Thursday for new windscreen fitting

"Thursday" Are they making it?
Have they asked you to get some sand off the beach and they can melt it down, but care... you need silica sand to make glass.:nenau

Yours is a car still in production, and they can't get one sooner!:doh

So if it's deemed safe to drive, have mobility agreed to that too, now.
If so... drive it with extreme care, but if it rains you will shred your wipers... so who will pay for them? and if they say no you can't drive it, then say can you have a replacement, or credit to pay for several taxis, as you have to use the car on a daily basis... as per the reasons you have a mobility car in the first place.
Using the car is essential... if only for getting food to last until Thursday.

Now... who am I most unimpressed with?
I think it must be mobility, and the reason being, I would have thought they have someone to organise this for you, and take ownership of this problem.

I don't know if I should ring motobility again ....... autoglass already don't like me :augie ....... oh well here goes :augie:rolleyes:

It does amaze me how many large stones can hide in a lorry tyre tred, the one I sometimes drive can store some the size of a £1 coin. I steer clear of being behind trucks, especially tipper trucks as these can collect bricks and large concrete pieces between the twin drive wheels, which can let go at speed with deadly consequences.

You have to ring them to ask permission to drive the car, then just go with my suggestion of finding an alternative way to get your shopping.

Mobility must have some clout with Auto glass, but they could just as easily organise your screen from another supplier... but that call must be from them.
So get them to sort it.
You need to be polite, assertive, no shouting, no bad language, but give a good "argument" as to what the issue is, and that the time scale is just not acceptable, but also give alternative solution what they can do to keep you mobile?
They need to try to keep the customer satisfied...
Wasn't that a song by Simon and Garfunkle lol
:lol

hmmmmm , nice chat with a lady from motobility ...... she fully understands my situation .....they will ring autoglass for a " update " ...... but as far as they are concerned if the car has been deemed fit to drive then I am not entitled to a loan car ....... they can however supply me with a loan car ..... but at my own expense ........ I politely told the lady I wasn't happy ...... and am waiting for a call back :sly

Well you have it from them it's ok to drive. So drive it with care.
As the laminated screen is made up of two layers of glass with an inner plastic membrane, provided that the inner glass is complete, ie no cracks, then the screen is still acting to stiffen the car body. and it is unlikely that the inner screen will give any problems.

There could be a major problem with glare from the crack, if you are driving at night, so I would avoid that, just in case.

So what did mobility say to your question...
I have a broken windscreen...
Ahhh we'll look into it...:lol:lol

Pete, you are on holiday, you don't want this to ruin too many days of your holiday, so I know it is difficult, easy for me to say, but you need to chill somehow, and think... it will be sorted so try to get on with having a rest.
Yes I would be stressed with it all, but hey... it's only a minor set back, that will be back to 100%
As you know in life, not all problems can be solved like this, back to 100% Take it easy,
best regards,
Richard

Feel for you Briggie as autoglass is taking the pi$$ as they should have a screen in stock at one of their depots:augie

ok , so I finally got my call back from motobility ......they have asked autoglass for a update and have been told that a windscreen is on order ......... so I asked if I had permission to drive my car ...... the guy seemed very non committal tbh ........he said I understand the technician has deemed it fit to drive .......... anyway ive decided im not driving it until it has a new windscreen ..... my choice I guess .... but id rather be safe .
