Hi guys, I sadly sold my terrano a while ago and I am considering getting another, I have seen a 53 plate one but the seller says the immobiliser sometimes seems to stay on and the engine turns over but doesn’t fire up....
Is this something that can fixed?

Surely everything can be fixed, just a question of cost.

I’ve heard of someone connecting a wire from batter direct to glowplugs to start the truck.
It’s probably one of those jobs that you’ll only know about when you get it home and play around.

if the light on the dash under the windscreen stays flashing after the key is inserted then you need to check the coil around the ignition switch for damage/connection issues, Rick

What is your current 4x4 ?

Have you still got the ML or are you without a 4x4 at the moment ?
ted

Hi ted, no I got shut of the ML just after the intelligent selector module failed, so I bought a A220 amg sport, great little car, goes like stink and gives me 50mgp.

I am looking at another 4x4 as a shooting/ dog truck and always loved the terrano.

Rick is it an easy and cheap fix?

It might be stolen with mismatched keys :lol but you should keep spare keys clear when using to avoid confusing the sensor.

OK found it, one screw and the connecting plug, but if yours looks undamaged and the wire and connector look good them I doubt this is the problem, much more likely is a damaged chip in the key, do you have more than one key? if so does the other one do the same, here is a pic of the coil, if you suspect the coil I am happy to send you this one to try, if it works pay me if not send it back, Oh and as Mav96 says do not have another chipped key on the same ring it will confuse NATS, Rick

cheers rick, that is a very kind offer, I haven't bought it yet just one I am considering at the moment

Rick, I have spoken to the owner of the terrano again and he said it has only just started doing it, since he had the dash out to replace the heater matrix....
He said it’s a bit intermittent but when it doesn’t start the light on the dash flashes, he has tried both of his keys and they both do the same.
He said he has disconnected the battery over night and that sometimes works....

sounds like when having the dash out he has not connected a plug properly someplace, maybe even on the ECU unit itself, not easy to check but it is a starting point, Rick

Hi rick, unfortunately I missed out on the truck, guy sold it today before I got to see it...

Thanks for your help and advice though, this is why I always loved this forum, everybody is happy to help if they can, I am a member of a few other forums; being a merc owner and I have to say the responses if any at all are total crap.

Keep up the excellent work guys
