I had the same thing (diesel supply compromised, not your starting issue) on an '09 Galaxt TDCi.
Wouldn't even come good on easystart. Had to inject fuel in to the lines with a syringe.
Second time I did the fuel filter on that car I brimmed the plastic filter receptacle with diesel from a 5L fuel can and very slowly lowered the new filter in so it absorbed the diesel and didn't displace it. Ran fine after that one. As stated no lift pump in the system.

This one has a sealed plastic fuel filter with 2 pipes on it

No chance of filling filter, I guess I could use a large syringe ...

Hooked up the jump leads for half hour

Will have another go ...

Right it turned over albeit very slowly for 2 clicks of the key then it went dead again

Its only showing 12.4 volts across battery

Terrano shows 13.3v even when not running

I think the battery is fked

But it won't turn over when hooked up to Terrano either ...

If starter was kaput then surely it would not turn at all, it would just click ?

I'm thinking of tow starting it ... The compression will draw the fuel through ??

If the cars battery is dead then disconnect it and try and start it from the terrano's battery.

Just a tip... when you connect two batteries in parallel to jump start, never try to start the flat car with the other car still running... quickest way to kill the alternator on the running car there is..

Best way is the raise the revs for 10 mins or so, and let the alternator of the good car put some charge in to the car with the flat battery, then turn off the good car, and try to start the flat car. If it starts to run low, restart the good car before you run it flat, and allow it to run for 20 mins or so, to top both batteries back up a bit.

Other tip is to get decent jump leads, most cheap jump leads sold do not actually allow enough current to pass aver them to actually turn the car over.

In your case though, I would check the connections where your jump lead clamps join the actual jump lead wire, again, a lot of the less well made ones, just rely on the spring of the clamp pressing the wire against the copper contact, and with prolonged use, the join can break down, making a high resistance joint which will stop them working properly.

Now I thought better of you re this, "compression" "draw the fuel through" think about it? you need to follow the post earlier about changing the filter, and regarding the starter/battery issue, if the car battery is stuffed then just jumping it will not work as it will draw all the amps from the slave battery, as fez says disconnect the car battery and just start on the jump leads but only if they are good and heavy, most are crap, Rick

Rick, why would a tow start not work or be inadvisable. I have seen it work on a 4x4 that wouldn't start after diesel filter change although not on a Ford Focus.

well if the fuel is not at the filter then a tow start is going to be a long haul till the pump gets it there if at all, not saying it will not work, but i depends on the fuel pumps ability to pump air, focus I do not know, Rick

Thanks for reply. You're right about it being a bit of a haul, at least when I saw it done must have been about a quarter of a mile before things started to happen. Probably would need enough charge in the battery for fuel pump to work (and maybe ECU) to make things a bit easier.

Got the mrs in Terrano today and she towed me about a half mile then it sprung into life :)

Took it for a good run to charge battery

Then pulled back up at home and turned it off, starter turned very weakly 2 turns them just clicked

So I took the starter off and it stinks of burnt electrics

Ordered a used one off eBay £32

Glad I got to bottom of it, just hope the starter is a good un :)

Glad you got it going mate, next time you do a fuel filter you will know how and save a burnt out starter, regards Rick

Indeed mate, this piece of shite car ain't long for our world tho, going on auto trader as soon as I've done the wheel bearing and service

Going back to the Volkswagen group, never failed me, and for me a know quantity

Yes it certainly pays to stick with what you know, Rick
