mdf is quite heavy, and really not good with screws (unless you pre drill) or glue for that matter

OSB you can get for 13.00 a sheet and its quite light but you have to cover it as its very feathery, but i got a good one that was nice and smooth. it all took one sheet , 1.5 x 4 m of carpet some screws. oh and 2 lengths of CLS
total cost less than 50.00

they will both do the job, its just more work with mdf

:thumbs:cool::)

Bugger :doh I brought two sheets of 12mm MDF today, is OSB lighter than MDF? and how does it compare cost wise? I must admit that MDF and screws don't instill much confidence and gluing doesn't help much as it can tear the top layer off....

For strength use ply. Preferably marine ply, costs a bit more but then it also lasts and we're only talking about 1 8'x4' sheet. I did a load of strength weight comparisons post Mac Challenge as I was looking to rebuild my storage stuff and I decided ply was the thing to use. Looked at Aluminium and alsorts. Only stuff that could really out perform it would be composites particularly metal matric composites. 9mm ply will do most stuff but will flex a bit if loaded so needs to occasional support - perhaps for a sleeping platform you'd need 12 or even 15mm.

Really good would be Wisadeck (the stuff they use on trailer floors. Its impregnated ply with a plastic coating but that does start to get costly and harder to source.

Still going to rebuild my storage but time dictates it stays as it is for now.

any place that repairs caravan should be able to sell you some..

Looking good Extreme.

Am I being a Muppet ? What does OSB stand for ? I'm looking at sorting the cargo area for our trip to France, with different sections for different things, and this sounds ideal. The load area is currently just one big space and a load guard. It would be nice to have a secure area to leave items in the truck as a bonus.

If parking and leaving your truck in France, an absolute must i'd say Lee!

Funnily enough household burglary levels are very low over there but they'll do a car soon as look at it...
