well its all part of the master plan i hope to get a tent that i can modify to attach to the truck . the bed area is initially to put the kids in to sleep. sounds dumb i know but we worry that the kids could go missing out of a tent while we are asleep. so this way i can lock them in and they will be alarmed too. i will sleep a lot better then

but its enough space for me to sleep in and maybe one other :naughty if i need to

it takes 3-4 mins to convert from bed to truck again. so its quite good

Know where ya coming from :thumbs :bow

Looks good but, what did you cover it with?

Is it made from MDF?

I'm in the process of doing the same to my new truck and am only at the cutting out stage so any info would be more than welcome :thumb2

the structure of it is made with 1/2 inch OSB board its strong , light and waterproof... it needs to be strong as its quite a bridge from the seat back hinges to the armrest that it rests on. you will find OSB will take screws much nicer than MDF

its covered in cheep cord carpet glued on... the cheeper the better it bends if its thin crap see. but you need the stuff that dont frey or pull at the edges or where you cut it

the key to the job is getting the seats to quick release

its really quite usefull because the boot area is good for the dog, i have less chance of crap flying about when off road. i can sleep in it or use it as a van

if i can lift anything that high, to use it as a van

one other thing i plan to do is move the drivers window switch to the centre console, so i can open it while in bed
id like the windows and stereo to work with out the key too

Bugger :doh I brought two sheets of 12mm MDF today, is OSB lighter than MDF? and how does it compare cost wise? I must admit that MDF and screws don't instill much confidence and gluing doesn't help much as it can tear the top layer off....

lacroupade...

I was wondering that flash git :nenau :lol

I can supply some flashing lights to go with that disco ball :lol :lol :lol

OSB is structural in building terms Bat because its much larger flakes of wood, so its closer to plywood in nature...the best is OSB 3 at about £17 an 8'x4' sheet from Jewsons, or OSB 1 about £9 from Wickes.

MDF is particle board so hasn't got a great deal of torsional strength.

mdf is quite heavy, and really not good with screws (unless you pre drill) or glue for that matter

OSB you can get for 13.00 a sheet and its quite light but you have to cover it as its very feathery, but i got a good one that was nice and smooth. it all took one sheet , 1.5 x 4 m of carpet some screws. oh and 2 lengths of CLS
total cost less than 50.00

they will both do the job, its just more work with mdf

MDF is fine, just for to be carful when screwing into it, like Ex says pre drill. and all is well.

also dust is not good so if you can use and power tools with extraction or at least " in a well ventilated area"

That is well smart col, only thing with my dog is she leaves fur everywhere!IMAGE_144.jpg

Took her out in the T2 today first time ever, she slid all over the load tray, shame there's no rear window, or one of those slidey pajero ones.
