smooth tube is the way forward, i did mine with flexi coiled hose, its good and no rain in, well no more that if it were standard. pete (makitfit) used guttering hence the smooth and its a little quieter. but we are not talking loud in either meathods.
i suppose at 3500 rpm it sounds like the heater fan on number 3. so really not noisy.

ok then which , apart from noise is the best ? do you want smooth airflow through smooth pipework or are you better with coiled hose which although noisier will cause air turbulance and possibly more likely mix well with the fuel :nenau

That was my mistake using alloy tube :doh didnt give the noise a thought :doh use ear defenders now for long distance  :doh

Hard to say really, if it was petrol & performance it would be looked into more.
But.
As its for a diesel 4x4 the air flow in is obviously no diferent its just how it gets to the turbo.
I would of thought the smoother the better...

i wos sort of thinking a big intake on the roof 24"x10" i think it may look good what do you think ??? or am i just crazy

Look before you do it as once done there is NO turning back :thumbs

very true mate ill have to moc it up and get an idea how it will look:thumbs

Because once the hole is in your bulk head & or roof, there really isnt any turning back as Colin & Pete both told me :thumbs

Colins was the 1st & Pete & i copied but although we've done the same thing there all totally diferent.! :clap

diferent is what im thinking :augie:naughty

bigger scoop will cause more problems than any gain.
more hole for rain and splashes not to mention the odd bird that might fly in , leaves and branches will become a problem too. and the drag it will cause

im changing to ally guttering inside the cab , just because i can gain an inch of head room back and slight noise reduction .

as for coiled hose for turbulence, i dont buy it not on a diesel, the turbo and intercooler will loose any of that

if you dont have intercooler its probably the best mod you can do and parts are available from a breaker tdi . but im working on ideas for intecooler too to gain extra cooling

id say birds are not a problem as i plan to put a filter in the scoop and it will also have mesh in the opening its more for looks and wean i go swimming in it i have no need for more power im not a speed demon lol but i am going to have a good think about it before i start my plans may change still yet :thumb2
