sounds like i could do with windows 7 my vista take an age to load from boot up and it doesn't run photoshop cs3 very well at all

is 7 that much better then Clive? I have a pent dual core t4200 2ghz 2ghz, 3gig mem 32 bit vista sp2 with constant updates, is this good enough to run 7, my machine seems to be slowing down as well and I store virtually nothing on the internal drive, just the operating system and programs that I use, all data goes to USB chips and sometimes an external HD, so I can reinstall the operating system on a clean computer very easily, the only downside is I have to download all the MS updates again, as I have not found out how to save and the copy them back, Rick

Plenty of spec that.

I run 7 on my media pc which is a P4ht 2.8. You need half the spec (well almost) for 7 to run quite happily compared to Vista.

Start with a clean install of 7, easy as you store all your stuff remotely. I promise you will not look back.

thanks Clive looks like I should upgrade, so what sort of cost? any idea mate, as like most I have a limited budget, Rick

Home Premium will be ample for you.

Buy the 'upgrade' version- alot cheaper.

Starting with a wiped hard disk, you have to do the equivielent of a double install, but that gets around the MS stipulation of it being an 'upgrade'.

If you want to be walked through it, ask Clivvy or myself.

thanks Timbo just confirms what Clive said, if I can afford it looks like I will upgrade, just had to shell out £335 for a certificate of lawful development application to the council crappers, Rick

you should be able to buy a version for around £70 i think, but this will probably be for a basic version. id have to check prices...

Full version of 7 H/P for £72 at the moment. (OEM, so buy a cheap mouse at same time)

Strangely the upgrade is now priced higher at the moment. :S

I have a 1 TB Aldi special Medion I think it was £79.00 its brilliant and has an extra connector SATA ? for high speed transfer that I use it just slots into the top of my PC.

For the laptop it has seperate power supply etc.

You massively overpaid on that (unless you got it more than 2 years ago lol). I got my 2TB drive & Caddy for £75.
