Right o guys n dolls, I'm going to start my exo cage soon as I can, the season is upon us again :D
Nicked a childs felt pen and doodled this for 1st draft.:naughty
All derogatory comments will ofcourse be met with suitable derision :lol

I'll be chopping the back end eventually and that's why there's only rear diagonal.
There'll also be an internal cross brace that'll bolt through the roof to the outer cage.
Any advise guys ?:bow

keep a decent hoop for front window and drivers area. For extra strength consider exo / internal braces.

Oh and get on with it, I need some ideas for mine

Hope you get your deal done Sunday ;)
Any clues on a trol yet then boyo :augie

I hope so too. No rush with the trol. Need to get a run around first (hopefully a terrano) then be patient for a decently priced 2.8 SWB.

Then the work begins with a sizeable budget. :naughty

also consider a massssiove set of rock sliders if you mount the cage to it.

Yeh the idea is to have the exo come right down to the chassis via some sort of rock slider. Also got to make rear trailing arm skid plate deflectors :sly

Im guessing the cage will unbolt from the sliders? This is where I have got to in my mind of the possible biggest weakness. I was thinking maybe a slot and bolt arrangement.

I've got a bookmark of a crazy build of a patrol at work, Can't find the forum post now. Also he did some trailing arm armouring.

i always thought exterior cages were more of a hinderance in wooded areas due to snagging? i like the look of your cage tho, looks good :thumb2

A minor consideration compared to massive body damage on a roll :augie

Fez , find it please ;)

A bit like this , good view about 1.30 in :D

Phwoar :naughty this thread is giving me a funny feeling in my boxers...

my thoughts, why bother with a body at all, it will only get damaged, construct your external roll/damage cage around the chassis full stop, water proof all electrics and wear wet weather gear, Rick

i watched the link but i find winching a bit tiresome, a roll cage is a great idea, but internally is best all round. any idiot can pull any dead weight up an incline if they have enough power from a winch, wheels on it or not.

But can they do it at competition speeds? Winching is not as easy as it looks. :doh

You may have a shock when you go to a PnP.

Yep very much like the first one Fez :thumbs
trol took a bit more of Carmarthen with it again this weekend :lol
Goto find space to get the shell off quick sharp now :naughty

Yep I like the first one too, If I get one it's going to go a very similar route.

The front hoop (windscreen) looks like one piece front to back rather than side to side if you know what I mean. Not sure which is the strongest way.

Do you know if the SWB 2.8 Y60 patrols come coils and leafs or is it just leafs?

Are you planning a to turn it into a pickup? If so i'd attach the rear hoop directly to the chassis, rather than the tree/rock sliders.
