Just got my T2 back from the garage where it was having a new center and back section fitted. Along with a quote for the front section which as far as i knew was ok!:(. It has split at the flexi and I'm not sure if the garage have done it trying to get the old one of as the rest of the front section looks pretty new. Any way they want another 175€ for the front section Is there any way of a temp fix till I can get a front bit , maybe a bandage ,or is there too much movement there for that

I believe you can get a new flexi piece to weld onto your front pipe after cutting old one out. (ebay).
I tried to bandage the flexi on my Patrol a couple of years ago but as you have put there is to much movement in that section for it to work.

I can source you a replacement for £37 new and it's £56 to send it to France

But I don't think I'd be comfortable sending an exhaust section by post especially air mail as they are very delicate

Thanks banshee but the post kills it the price they want incudes 103€ for the pipe itself (85£ish)
+other bits and labour Garages must be the only trade where you can f**k something up and charge the customer for it:doh:jerkit:

Can you coat an exhaust in protection?

I don't think there is anything that you can apply to stop it as most of the rust occurs from the inside I think ,that and the heat . the only thing you can do is pay the extra and get stainless :nenau

Having replaced the middle section and rear section on mine a few times, I really can't see how you can damage the front section, IF you take your time and take care disconnecting the fixing bolts, and prising the flanges apart.

This takes some thought, and the procedure of the order of disassembly needs to be worked out. BUT if someone else is doing it...it's not their risk, and it can be an opportunity for an additional sale...:doh

However, if you go at it like a bull at a gate, and drop the exhaust and rely on twisting to separate the flange, then yes, it can shear.

If I was undoing the bolts, I would make sure there was no twisting of the exhaust, in fact, an angle grinder on the bolts would be less stressing to the front pipe.

Hang on... aren't these people supposed to be experts in exhaust replacement ?...

Now remind me again... why I do all the servicing on my Maverick, and source the parts, and fit them myself....:nenau
If I allowed "some" garages to do the work, then I doubt I would be running a 19 year old motor.
Oh did I mention..... no I won't, it's getting boring now.:doh :lol:lol:lol
