nah mate, its just not happening for either the exhaust, or the throttle unit thingy. if there is one thing im learning about hese cars, is they are fiddly as hell. i had less trouble working in the engine bay of my V6 mazda.

and yet still, i love the Maverick. How can I love it when ive hardly driven it?

roll on next week when the exhaust is done and its booked in for diagnostics.

That's why I go to an Exhuast Centre because they deal with rusted bolts everyday and not only know the tricks but will often have the ability to re-thread broken bolts with a decent sized replacement bolt for little if no extra charge.

Your tale of woe took me back to my Opel Manta GT/E days in 1990 when I purchased a complete new exhuast from my local car parts wholesaler at a bargain price.

The front pipe was held on with 6 bolts as it was a twin front pipe arrangement. 4 bolts came out simples one snapped off and the 6th was missing/sheared.

I ended up having to take the inlet manifold off where I had a similar problem with the manifold bolts !

Two days and lots of skinned knuckles later and the front pipe was on. Then I could not get the rear box over the axle until I had jacked it up to a dangerous height using a combination of my mates two ramps and an array of borrowed bottle jacks.

Finally got it all done and since that day(s) I have never fitted my own exhuast again. To add insult to injury the system lasted 1 year and 1 day. I then had Challenger Exhuasts put on a decent Aluminised replacement for 50p more than the first system !!

Happy days !!

LMAO..............in the nicest way :D

I had similar in the 80s with an Astra.

I later twigged that the same exhaust would have been the same as I paid to fit it myself done at a local exhaust centre :D we live and learn.

my only worry is getting ripped off. the garage couldnt tell me how much to fit the tail pipe, which really bothers me but out of all the garages i rang, only ONE could give me some indication of cost, and they are in a dodgy area anyway...

i dont get it, HOW can a garage not give a quote for a simple job? the worst that can happen is the bolts are seized and they have to cut them off, big deal, garage should be able to that par for the course not make out its some massive feat of engineering they have had to undertake for me...

anyway, im going to take th echance and if the bill is too much, im just going to have to argue the toss.

got the car back today, job all done. they had to buy in an extra rubber mounting which is fine, all in all £55, so not cheap, but not upsettingly expensive and i wont have to worry about doing it again for a while.
