chaps,

noticed a short while ago that my front flexi pipe is a bit buggered, and is now blowing. It vibrates badly so I am not surprised its damaged. I noticed that that is a bracket holder with rubber dampener on the chassis, but no bracket on the exhaust, why is this? it means that the entire flexi pipe is reliant on the exhausts each end to keep it in place - which doesn't happen because it vibrates like good 'un! Seems to me the flexi pipe is supposed to have a bracket so it can be attached firmly to the chassis, how would I go about this if I buy a new flexi pipe (which don't seem to have a bracket welded on)??

Not looked at mine so this is a bit guess work:rolleyes: Maybe a large exhaust clamp around the front pipe with a metal bracket going to the body mount would work

There is supposed to be u bolt type clamp around the front pipe that is attached to a bracket that then clamps via a rubber mounting to the chassis.

When I replaced my full exhaust the bracket had nearly rusted away so I made a new clamp with a piece of stainless drilled two holes and clamped it all back up.

Having assessed the whole clamp assembly, it does not look like it would actually provide much support anyways.

Anyways - why am I telling you this, you should have bought mine :D

Is it this one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290580327978?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I had my front pipe done the other week and the bracket broke and the U bolt was knackered. I haven't got round to replacing them yet.

Only a U clamp at the front . The one in the picture is on the middle box from memory

ah yes, I could order a U clamp...unless I have one floating around...:thumbs

My exhaust is sitting very close above the gearbox cross member at the back end of the flex.
I've tried tweaking which improved things from it knocking constantly, so now it only knocks in reverse.
There seems to be no adjustment - moving the above illustrated support bracket to pull it up as much as poss didn't achieve much as that is all flexible.

I'm reluctant to put too much force on the front section to try and bend it as that might overload the exhaust manifold.

Any advice?

well, when I did the exhaust on my old SWB Maverick, I had the same issue (knocking etc). I bought a U Clamp and had to modify a bracket and fix it all up. The only way I could do it, was to remove all the exhaust from the flexipipe backwards (I was doing the centre pipe anyway).

I fitted the flexipipe first with the u clamp so it was firm and well above the cross member, then the centre pipe - obviously pushed a little bit back but the existing clamp still fixed ok. Then fitted the backbox and all was good.

that's my plan for the front flexi pipe when I buy one week after next.
