Hello,

is Euro 1 / Euro 2 an issue in UK? I've gone through the pain the get my '97 2,4i 118hp 5door from Euro 0 into Euro 2 (what reduced my tax from 707€ to 176€).

I don't know the regulations in the UK and if it's a difference in the pocket if it's an Euro 0 or Euro 2 ... ?!?

Just wanted to make you guys aware that it's possible to get Euro 2 at least in Germany. If it's of interest I can provide details.

Regards
Joerg

There certainly are some laws for London, Dont ask me what :nenau

And I know people keep talking about the year 2020 for diesel emissions in London taking a bit hit.

I guess I have to move to the UK .... German government decided a couple of years ago that there's too much dust in th air. So they defined "Environmental Zones" in the major cities like Hannover, for example. Now your car needs a sticker which colour is telling how much dust it's blown out by the car. It can have green (what is good), orange, yellow, red (what is bad). Only cars with a green sticker are allowed to enter the "environmental zones". Violations will be fined. Do I need to mention that only "modern" cars (maybe up to 10 years) are capable of getting the green sticker. Very German regulation ... why does it need 4 degrees of dust level if only one is allowed to enter?

One could think that this regulation was invented to support German car manufacturers, like VW with their "clean diesel", ....

This, of course, is slightly misguided in that there is a huge amount of resources that goes into building these new, low emission vehicles. I'm left wondering whether an older, maintained vehicle is better for the environment.

Secondly, would I get any bonus points as I was responsible for planting around 1,000 trees when I was younger?

What has Mr Prius driver put back?

EDIT: Or indeed, what pollutes more? A 2,7tdi doing 5,000kms a year or a low emission rep-mobile doing 30,000kms per year?

thats the same as london except no stickers its all caught on cctv nprs so if your car is wrong you get a fine through the post.

All very well but now the VW cat is out of the bag it is all a big con anyway, Rick

I was told that if I was to drive through certain bits of London in my Terry (Low Emission Zones) that I'd get a little present in the post :nenau

I'm in London tonight anyways fetching my 33's:sly

Not sure if you know just how big the LEZ is...

The other night we were looking into a later T2, and looking at the different tax bands it comes into. That got Suz thinking about the LEZ as her dad keeps being admitted to hospital, and sometimes it can be one of the specialist ones in the centre of London. So we decided to make sure the newer T2's can go into the "LEZ" area just to be safe (I know a lot of LR's can't). What we did not realise is how big the area it covers is, and how far out it comes. There is even a bit that actually extends just outside the M25 in Essex. Our local shopping centre is Orpington, and that is within the LEZ. Chessington World of Adventures.. In the LEZ, they actually extended it out to cover that.

The other thing is, I thought that if you ventured in, you just popped on line and paid... I never realised you were looking at £100 a day, and if you venture in at 23:59, and leave at 00:01, you have to pay 2 days!!!...

Emissions etc

The current trend for taxpayer subsidised electric cars makes me laugh. Free VEL no congestion charges, zero emissions, fantastic low running costs etc.

But that's a lie all they have done is moved the exhuast pipe from the vehicle to the massive one at the power station that has its own personal cloud generation system.

If everyone moved overnight to all electric the infrastrucure on the grid network could not cope with the demand either in the wiring or in the generation capacity needed.

So you have this clean electric car and generate electricity with coal, gas or nuclear. Carbon Capture is still a dream and we have radioactive waste from our old nuclear power stations with a half life longer than humans have been on the planet.

To help us we have different standards in different counties and even different rules planned in regions within a country !!

Little wonder we hold politicians in such low esteem as I blame them for the VW fiasco. Have politicians ever heard of Independent Testing in real life driving situations?

Anyone with two or more braincells knows that manufacturers claimed economy is one big fat lie and has been for 15-20 years why do governments allow emissions tests that are carried out with engines in a laboratory on a dyno?

The public are fed the ludicrous mpg claims by slick advertising and a PR system that is corrupted by the clout of adverting from manufacturers.

All the 2.7 TDI's are big dirty lumps & kick out the same emissions unless your running on veg but the government doesn't take that into account:doh pre 2001 are the cheapest to tax, 2001-late 2005 are just short of £300 a year & 2006 model get the lovely £500 a year tax which I think is so unfair as it's the same engine:doh

This ends the party political broadcast of the green party.

:p

Calm down and watch your blood pressure.

The whole thing is a bloody scam. Put the duty on fuel, that way you pay as you drive and it will catch foreign drivers too. They have already done way with the tax disc, so get rid of the rest, very unfair tax.

I'm all for this, I had a discussion with an old work colleague some years ago, and he was a great advocate of this. He also proposed that built into the price of fuel was third party insurance. The thinking being that then you couldn't be hit by an uninsured driver. Anyone wanting more cover could then top up to fully comp.

Makes a lot of sense. I'll save his idea for dealing with the drug problems for another day.

Hey Joerg, I like the point that you are making. In Germany with a little effort you can change the car tax band of your vehicle, now that does sound good doesn't it:thumb2

As for driving in London lads, ermmm no thanks. To be honest I've never been full stop to that place. Sounds like Borris Johnson has stitched it all up down there.

Anyhoo my how come my little 1.2tsi Skoda has the same road tax as a 1.6tdi, that does seem like a scam and of course there are calls to remove diesel vehicles and switch back to petrol again. Once again things have come full circle.

As for the VW fiasco, I wouldn't be at all surprised if other manufacturers were doing the same thing.

All for that if they scrap road tax at the same time as I would be quids in every year as only do around 7000 a year:thumb2

big flaw, so I have to top up your insurance when I and others top up our lawn mowers etc, and how does this cover the arsholes who steal fuel from the pumps with false plates, Rick

Absolutely, but then, isn't everything flawed?

If it wasn't this forum wouldn't exist.

'Tis the way of theworld.
