Right here we go Terrano 05 2.7 tdi Driving along and every now and again she decides she wants to die Does not cut out no light on the dash Pull over turn here off restart and off we go may last days weeks or go again same day ???????? Not the fuel filter Not Air mas meter I only have two more things to try thats small filter in pump or No 1 injector I dont think its small filter As i feel it would be under power most of the time    And as for No 1 injector i have had one go before on my old 2.7 And that was missing like a pig Light on the dash as well So what do u guys think :thumb2

The old td doesn't have a special No 1 injector, so don't be misled by this.

Crank case position sensor is something, that can get covered in metallic fragments, thus reducing its efficiency , so could produce an internittant fault.

You could remove it and clean it.

I have the td, so I am only going from memory of what other people MAY have said, so I could be talking.... no change there then.:doh

Update

Just realized tonight that when this R20 die,s its not far up the road when you have gone up a hill Looking back now it is every time i have gone up the hill level out annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd there we go she starts to die Pull on the side of the road Turn her off Restart And of we go :confused::confused::doh:doh:doh Will get it in before someone else does DONT GO UP A HILL LOL

Totally a guess, but how about dirt in the tank...

Up hill and flows back ad it gets into the bit where the fuel is taken from the tank, partially blocking it. Then when you turn the engine off, the breif back flow flushes it away until the next hill?

???

on mine it was a pin hole in diesel line near wheel arch damp, but mine was on a 97/98 on a 05 would not expect diesel pipe to be corroded.

Glen

05 so it is a TDi, first thing to do is pull up the codes, Rick

Well give you top marks for that Thought the same thing tonight Put a lot of my fuel in from cans Its always full or 3 quarters Never let it get low So over time cans get rubbish in Then that gets in the tank And yes Rick Thats on the card in the morn Get them codes up Thanks guys

On my 3.0 (on an 05 plate) similar fault was caused by rusted fuel pipes between tank and rear wheel arch allowing air into the diesel system.
Cut back rusty pipes to forward of the rear wheel arch and replaced with rubber fuel pipes, problem sorted.

could be...
the only way your engine can register over boost is by excess air flow measured by the MAF.
A fail to open waste gate could do that, also, so could a faulty MAF.

Knew Ray would have the answer, more likely to be the Maf, methinks, Rick

Thanks for that But not the maf Tried 3 on it Plus when plugged in thats coming up A/O/K/ Thinking now solenoid that works wast gate But big big thank KEEP chucking them at me We will get to the bottom of it Checked the waste gate was workin yesterday put some wd40 round it Went out thought yes done it 4 miles up the road Bump loss of power Turn off turn on and off we go

i know less than nothing , but i would hazard a guess at a fuel pressure problem ........ but then again i know nowt

Then I would turn my attention to the integrity of the MAF <--> ECU wiring.
If for instance, the MAF ground intermittently failed, the ECU would pretty much see a full 5 volts, similar to what would happen in a genuine over boost condition......

if you bump then loss of power could it be something simple as battery leads? lose terminal or fractured maybe
