Again, caught short again the past 2 days and car hasn't started :(

I've had to jump on the bike to get to work which I don't mind really it's just a massive pain

I must of had about 10ish litres or so of WVO in the tank then filled it to the filler neck with x3 20l drums of KTC veg
::) So had no space for any RUG, I'm hoping to get it started again tonight with another blast of easy start and then take it for a massive run and then just fill it to the neck again with Diesel

Hopefully this mix should keep me running!!!! Horrible when your on the drive and the neighbors are getting in their cars and your there cranking the crap out of yours and smoking the street out 8)

So my question is, what can I put in place to prevent this in the way of pre-heating the car before I go out to it?

Is there something I can fit to the tank? In the tank? Around the fuel lines?

there are in tank pre heaters and fuel line ones to just google them. im running 100 % svo with 10% petrol with no problems the svo stored out side premixed with the petrol when it gets colder i will mix it 20% petrol with a splash of derv for good measure.

No fuel line pre-heaters/tank heaters will make any difference to starting as it starts on the stuff that won't be heated.

Don't you add any petrol to thin it? Mine started this morning like a normal diesel. Rapeseed + 10% petrol. Although there is some diesel/veg mix in there too.

I think I need to start pre mixing, I'm just pouring it straight in which is my issue as once it's full I'm putting the petrol in on top which isn't mixing correctly, I think adding it into the cubies before and shaking it all around is the best idea

Is this the kind of thing I should be looking at?

Again, as above, I think the amount I'm adding per full tank isn't enough and I'm not pre mixing :doh

You guys are ace BTW, I love the way you foster thoughts that hadn't even crossed my mind :thumbs:clap

Pretty good idea, I'd add one before the fuel pump too as it may take the strain off the pump a bit on cold mornings. Would help a little.

What kind of device would I put before the pump?

Where is the pump on these?

just an idea! would insulating the tank and the fuel lines help? as the fuel gets warm when the engine is running. Also, would it be possible to stick a 12v heating mat under the tank? or maybe one the wore from some heated gloves or heated bar grips for motorbikes along the fuel lines? All of this might sound like crap, but I'm just trying to throw a few ideas in :thumb2

At the end of the day the fuel in the ice cold injection pump is the real problem if u r even thinking of running wvo in winter I would strongly advise u to do a twin tank set up that way u always start from cold on good old fashioned diesel:augie

and maybe use that time to run heaters under your SVO tank to warm it up a bit?

i run my t2 all year on various mixes in tank.
the only way to be sure is put a pumped water heater in line on the water circulate, connect to mains over night to keep engine and fuel in engine/pump up to temp.about £80.
i used to just put my ready prepared wvo into tank and top up with derv/rug in my old car without a problem but found the t2 needs it premixed so that what i do now,and leave the mixout in cold to settle before i put in tank.
i took out the in tank swirl chamber replaced with pipe to bottom of the tank, put a 10mm fuel line from tank to filter, replaced the pump/filter with large inline filter and put a 12v 6lb in line lift fuel pump just befor ip.
rug thins wvo better than derv.
in my tank at the moment its 75wvo to 10 rug with 15 derv and it started at -4 with no long turn overs.when it gets colder i will swap the amount of derv and rug and might go to 60% wvo.
might be of help.

been there tried that didnt work lol as said its the cold fuel in the Ip thats going to be the problem those fuel line heaters look good tho there is plenty of room to fix them to the injector pipes and possibly wrap 1 or 2 around the pump also.

but ask your self this are you honestly going to sit in your car waiting 3 minutes before you start the engine up?

I find that premixing out of the tank with petrol up to 20% helps keeping the veg flowing, but the old girl likes a splash of real diesel in there too, but that just gets added at the pumps when I remember.

Recently topped up with 40L of cheapo soya oil with about 10% diesel slapped on top - forgot about the petrol needed to thin it, so a little reluctant to fire first thing and a touch lumpy until things start to loosen up - luckily, it's relatively warm for early January.

My normal process is to rough filter down the waste oil, heat it and circulate for an hour or so through a spray bar to get rid of any water and then mix with petrol and leave standing about for as long as I can wait. Final step is to filter through a j cloth filter bag and then a set of gravity filter socks to 1 micron. That then gets slopped into the tank with a splash of derv from the pumps when I can be bothered stopping by.

Sounds more hassle than it is, still to build up a better system to reduce my time in all of it to a minimum, might even go as far as building a proper bio plant to take the strain away from the old pump.

Waste of time

You ned to heat the oil thats sat in the injectors, an from there to the pump if stating cold.

Ive a heat exchanger fitted into hot water. Runs nicley when warm, and after 100 miles the tank feels warm

Electric heaters are a waste of time and money
