I shall soon be pulling the tired, oil burning, heavy breathing lump from my Terrano and replacing with a new one supplied by Rick, cheers mate:thumb2
Been doing a lot of research into this lately but if anyone has any tips or tricks to make the transplant easier i'm all ears.
Mine is an auto and the donor engine is from a manual but it should just be a case of removing the flywheel and replacing with my flex plate right:nenau
i was going to remove the transmission and torque converter prior to removing the engine to avoid any clearance issues that might arise when i pull the engine.
Have access to an engine hoist but need to check that it's up to the job as these are a fairly heavy lump.
Once the project is underway i shall start a dedicated thread with pictures(if i can get my head around the image BB site):lol:lol

Good news then Elty the engine comes out easy on an auto, do not touch the box just undo the 4 bolts on the drive plate and leave the torque converter behind, no need even to drop the front diff, Rick

Are the crank output length & tapers the same ?

Certainly some vehicle manufacturers have different crank tapers on manual & automatic crankshafts unless you know for sure be aware of this potential issue.

Probably newer designs have the same crankshaft part number to save money etc.

If you need a hand with it mate, let me know which weekend you plan on tackling it and I can roll up with a full truck of tools and plenty enthusiasm and have removed an engine in one of these before with a pal :thumb2 didn't put it back in though :augie went to Romania in the back of a sprinter for some profit :naughty

Cheers Rick :thumb2
I had read that the engine is easier to remove in an auto but last time I did any major work on one was about 20 years ago on a Toyota Corolla so many brain cells have been killed with alcohol since then
:lol

Cheers for the offer mate:thumb2
Not sure when I will be doing the swap yet.
Was hoping to get it done over the Easter weekend as I usually have a four day holiday but a breakdown on one of the laser's at work has put us behind so there's a chance I could be working.:(

Thanks for the heads up:thumb2
As far as I'm aware they are the same but something to check once the engine is out.

Scum traitor

:lol :lol :lol :lol

Wish I had the space like Rick has mate and I'd be storing them on top of each other :lol

I do fear how long these beasts have left before we can't get parts for them in the way we do now with such ease. Realistically in about 5-10 years I think it will be as hard getting R20 parts as it it to get Y60 patrol bits right now :(

Sobering thoughts
