Hi guys.

I have been having sooo many issues recently with my 2001 2.7 5dr tdi Terrano.

It started with the engine light coming on, and the vehicle going into limp mode ... I let it stand for a while, fiddled with the wiring, I.e. checking the connections, and it magically sorted itself out.
During the coming weeks/months, I noticed that it would occasionally hesitate, and fart out white smoke, and as quickly as it happened, it seemed to sort itself out. Occasionally the engine light would come on, but turning off the ignition, and turning it back on, got rid of the light.

It has eventually got to a point where there is almost no reaction from depressing the accelerator. I took it in to a local mechanic, who advised it needed a service, so I booked it in. R6000 (aprox 356.59 pounds) later, filters n stuff done, including a set of rear brake shoes, and the damn thing was still faulty. I was advised that I needed to take it to Nissan directly, as they couldn't find the fault.

I booked it in this morning, and was unpleasantly surprised to be presented with a quote of R 102 000 (approx 6061.97 pounds) for the replacement of the injector timing pump and the no 1 injector + labor ... these guys must be out of their trees :/

Not sure if this means anything to anyone, but these 3 items were listed under the engine section of the diagnostics ...

P0100 : MAS AIR FLOW SEN = 0
P1242 : NEEDLE LIFT SE(RPM) = 12
P1246 : F/INJ TIMG F/B = 32

I can't spend this kind of money on these repairs .. this is crazy !!

Bottom line ... will the Nissan 2.4 petrol engine fit in place of the 2.7 TDI ?? :nenau

Sorry for the long read, and thanks in advance ... please shout if I have left out any relevant info ...

I would swap out the number one injector first, as when my one was playing up, it kept listing other errors along with the injector error. As soon as I replaced the injector, all the other errors went away.

Thanks for the heads up .. will have to see if they can refurbish this injector ... I'm just so hesitant to keep throwing money at this :(

Some have dropped out the 2.7tdi lump, and replaced it with the older slightly less powerful 2.7 td non intercooler version, no fault codes to report as there are no sensors to replace.

This might surprise you, but my Mav with the 2.7 td engine has been running fine for 22 years. :doh

Let me just list all the parts I have replaced in those 22 years, other than oil and filters etc...

errrmmmm

Oh yes, around 6 glow plugs.
One oil pressure switch, only because it developed an oil leak.

That is all. No injectors, no other sensors, thermostat original, so might be an easier option for you.
Some have fitted the 2.7 td fuel pump to the 2.7tdi and removed all the sensors etc, not for the feint hearted. It has been done a lot on the Nissan Navara replacing the 2.5

There will be issues though, the Td has a mechanical speedometer off the gearbox and rev counter, etc

Rustic

As Rustc says the TD will go straight in with only a few mechanical mods and bin all the electrical stuff, unless you have the later none cable speedometer, The 2.4 petrol is a no go as is also ECU controlled so would mean wiring loom change etc as very different from the TDi, Rick

its a pity you are so far away.this week i have found 3 2.7tdi going cheap, lowest one 2" lifted muds 2001 looks good with a start first time for £300.needs welding for mot.
