Well after 4 days I got my terrano back from the bodyshop but its all welded up and waxoyled, But for £200 it should survive another few winters. Ive been using a Peugeot 308 for the last few days and with this cold spell were currently having it was completely frozen up this morning, But after 2 minutes running and no de-icer the windows were clear. So it got me thinking about an engine pre-heater to get the coolant up to temp faster I know they come fitted to higher end x5's and range rovers and the like but I wonder if one could be retro fitted to a terrano ill have to do some digging online but has anyone else ever looked at this or done it for that matter? Cheers.

It was a fairly common thing in the late 60's early 70's to put a mains powered heater into the bottom hose that on a timer heated the water up so that the engine was warm before start up, should still be available, Rick

I've seen the mains powered one's Rick, My aunt and uncle live in Canada and have to plug the cars in overnight in winter to stop them freezing solid. These are a diesel powered unit and are completely self contained on the car, You can buy them in a kit with a timer for about £500 but where's then fun in that ;) have a google search of webasto engine heater quite smart little units.

I have a 3Kw electric one, I put it in the heater pipe, so it warms the car up clearing the windscreen as well. Works OK, but because the engine is so big, it takes about an hour of pre-heating to lift the temp to anything worth while.

No need I had one on my narrow boat, great little units but for the UK? Rick

I thought that as well I know the UK doesn't really get that cold but its only 2 miles to work for me so the terrano doesn't really warm up plus its think of the stress thats removed from the engine with it already being warm.

Then go for it, Rick
