2002 3.0 Terrano dti. I read that the oil should fully synthetic 15 40. Last oil change i might have put in normal oil, I don't know how but after 600 miles I had a lack of power. It's not a seasing issue as I have done 2000 miles since. Have changed maf no difference, blanked off egr, turbo pressure ok, vacuum hoses ok, no air in diesel to pump, not a blocked fuel filter. Error code 0046 air problem could it be a blocked cat.

If you have a loss of power that is restored for a short time after cylcing the ignition, then you almost guarrenteed have an overboost condition, probably caused by a combination of blanking the EGR and (basically) the turbo actuator going out of adjustment.

What is your peak boost pressure, and does it spike high before settling back to ~17-18psi ??

Firstly get the right oil in, which I think should be 10w-40 from memory.

Pull the codes and we'll go from there.

Just as an aside, I pulled up behind a bloke at Calais port the other week in a 10 year-old Vectra diesel. He couldn't start it and said when it was running it was hunting like feck and stalling all the time.

He also said it had an oil leak and that he'd heard the fuel pump could act up if oil was low. So we chucked in a litre of oil I had in the boot and it started and ran like a sewing machine.

Weird.....

On the DI and DTi's all the engine controls are via vaccum from the engine driven pump which relies on splash lube from the sump. When the oil level is low, it doesnt generate enough vacuum and everything goes to pot. Simples.

Aha! Ta for that, interesting.:thumb2

Indeed. However the 2.0 dti is one of the strongest most reliable diesels. Once you have replaced the injector leak off seals. :>

The 1.7 = ok when it is going well. Stupid ECU on engine design so dry joints etc.

Fiat 1.3 = made of chocolate. Lucky to make it out of warranty period. :p

yep this bloke had 250,000 miles on the clock and once the oil was up again it ran like clockwork and he was regularly getting 60mpg. Can't remember exactly the model but it was the top of the range for its time - a DSi or something? about 12 years old from new he said.
