Engine oil flush

As the time is coming to do an oil change on my T2 I have been thinking of putting in an oil flush :roll: my T2 has covered 70K now & was wondering on your views regaurding doing this as I would hate to remove a bit of old oil rubbish thats helping the big end bearings etc :roll:
All views good or bad most welcome :smile:

quickest way to kill a perfectly good engine these products should of been taken of sale years ago,seen these flushes turn an RS2000 motor into knocking rattling useless heap of pooh in bout the time it takes to make a brew they strip everything from inside ya bearing shells and everywere else and with the detergants in todays oils there really not needed :wink:

I use slick50 in my veiw the best, I put slick50 engine oil additive 8000 miles ago, its sposed to be good for for 50000 but put more in before then. but flushing the oil is a good idea!

I have heard of this happening before so I thought I would ask before doing it :roll:

I imagine the Rs2000 lump was already on its way out. Most Pintos are a "knocking rattling useless heap of pooh" anyway.

Buy a proprietary brand and you be fine, well worth using on a high mileage engine or any where the oils not looking too clean (probably due to missed services earlier in life).

Im talking i4 dohc RS 2000 not some scabby breathless pinto motor,it was a one owner car with if memory serves me right only 50k full service history a very pampered car and stp engine flush sone put pay to that.This engine is also regarded in the ford rs owners clubs as the best engine ford ever produced which is true.We have cars in the club producing factory power outputs with over 200 thousand miles on the clock,in the last five years we,ve only had one car below 150ps 148ps with nearly 300k on the clock not exactly old smokers :wink:

I have never liked the thought of scouring out ALL the old oil from an engine by flushing. Don't really know why, just a gut feeling :|
Did an oil and filter change yesterday, added £5 worth of STP oil ADDITIVE (the slippery stuff) just for luck.
The old girl now sounds about 50K younger :smile:

Well, i doubt any engine flush will completely scour out all the old oil! and I have allways been suprised how much longer the oil stay clean if you give it a good flush first.

If your looking for an additive try our Molyslip contact richard on paper it alll looks better than slick 50 etc and i have tried it and it seems good to me!

I supose there are tales of woe with everyhting, i remember my dad gave me his old chevette (20 odd years ago) it wasnt that old at the time a bout 5 years and 52k allways serviced etc, at one all change we had slick 50 added and it was the end of the car It rattled and smoked, the head gasket went, and it was never the same again!

I thn in general oil flushes are well regared and harmless! but wether they do any good is open tom question.

Flush or not to flush

I changed jobs recently but I have worked in the motor trade for years on the body side, so my mechanical knowledge is limited. Now I've known people swear by engine flush and others that wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. So from a good friend of mine who's opinions I respect said. "If you haven't used it before I wouldn't, but do a double oil change. Do a second change after a good run of about 15 miles". In my opinion detergent oil is good if you do as the M.O.D do and that is only use it 100% of the time, and that was in Rolls Royce engines.

good quality oil changed regularly is all thats needed as thats all ready been said change ya oil leave it a few days then change it again

pretty goor advice that! if you can afford two lots of oil :wink:

i used to do this years ago a double change when swapping vehicles to synthetic oil to make sure they were really clean


how about a double change, and a flush :lol:

do a double oil change using 10w engine oil (let engine idle for about 5 mins between changes, just flushes dirty oil out and prob cheaper than engine flush, in bad cases i have used 50/50 oil/ diesel 8O 3 changes)

The problem is .. you use engine flush to flush out any old contaminated oil remaining in the engine. After you have flushed out the contaminated oil, you are still going to have a certain amount of the flushing agent in the system which mixes with your new oil, and could possibly harm the engine, so using a thin oil to "Flush out the flushing agent" before filling with the apropriate engine oil would seem like a good idea.

I'd use a flushing additive rather than a flushing oil unless in an extremely bad engine when perhaps flushing oil is th only way to go, they a run through with el cheapo 20/50 (£2.79 5L) before putting something decent in.

OK DONT CHANGE YOUR OIL TWICE AS ITS POOR TO DO THIS APPARENTLY LETS JUST CHUCK SOME FLUSH THROUGH AN ENGINE THATS BAD AND HOPE THE ENGINE FAIRY DOES ITS MAGIC :wink:

Thanks for all the input guy -cheers- at the min I think i'll just do a basic oil change but i'm sure this will help other members make their own minds up whether to do it or not :smile:
