Still Not Starting

OK Gents.. Having recovered from my birthday, been working and so forth, I have tried to use Easy-Star today.

Not a screaming success by any standards. The engine of course coughed a little, but no star up. Actually the engine did not sounded as if it liked Easy-Star at all. Before Easy-Star the engine and starter spun normally. Now it sounds different. Like it is not spinning as well as before. I don't hope the cylinders are dry of oil. There are certainly no fuel in the engine.

Would it make sense to buy the "Nissan Consult II" diagnostics thingy? Can it even be attached to a T2 1999? If so, where? :)

This is just not good at all.

Cheers!

Next thing I would do to 100% make sure that the immobiliser is at fault here is to try and start it with easy start but in fairness, even if all 4 plugs were down, as long as your starter and battery are good then it should start eventually, even I was managing that with Veg, so even easier on Diesel.

I'd be tempted to crack an injector whilst someone turns the car over to see if you're even getting any fuel up there :thumb2

Does not explain the electrical issues and only because I have lived in a few less desirable places where people steal fuel. But you definitely do have fuel in the main tank? It has not drained away through a hole (either man made or by corrosion/damage) in the tank. Are your fuel lines definitely good, could corrosion of finally split one beyond use?

Oh, and belated birthday wishes by the way.

Yes I have a full tank. I filled it up, drove home without issues. Next day no glow plug light and no start up.

I am not 100% on the fuel lines, but would a cracked fuel line cause electrical problems like I have? My guess would be "no", but I have been wrong before :)

Cheers!

if you use to much easy start it can lock the engine up and make it struggle to turn over leave it for a few mins and it will evaporate it only needs a little squirt at a time it should at least fire up on it :thumb2

I would say "no" as well but I too am frequently wrong:) Just asking incase you are unlucky enough to have two separate problems appear at the same time.

OK. Thank you for the reply :) I did not use a lot. Tried 3 times in all.

Cheers!

Consult II

Any input on the "Nissan Consult II" by any chance? :)

Will it be worth getting such a thingy for a T2 1999?

Cheers!

just out of interest, how long are you trying to turn it over for? i only ask beacuse when my glowplugs all died, it used to take a good 60 seconds of turning over before the thing would stat - usually accompanied by a large plume of smoke!

also (and not wanting to insult your intelligence in any way) you are removing the fuses before you test them yeah? as i say, no offence intended, but i know people that have tested them in situ before, giving them a false reading :thumb2

cheers, and good luck,

Lee

No problem Lee :)

As written earlier(this is getting a long thread..) the glow plug relay gets no power, but it works when I give it 12V. No glow plug lamp on dash board. Never seen that before.

Also no fuel goes to the injectors. All this happened over night. No previous problems at all.

Yes I of course pull the fuses and then test :thumb2

Cheers!

Having read your last update I'm still drawn to one of Ricks replies. It still sounds like NATS has cut in some how.

LazyFerret had something similar a while back after his battery went flatt.

No fuel at the injectors & no glow plug light.

Having read through the posts using Easystart will not help if no fuel is getting to the injectors the best you might get is a splutter from the engine on the Easystart vapour.

Do you have a pump lever on the fuel filter and when you pump it is it solid ?

I am thinking the Immobilizer is the cause of your problems but TBH I don't know how to bypass it I am sure someone here will know.

Just seems as though no glow plug light and no fuel is as a result of a two point immobilzer failure.

I too had a problem with NATS once after the battery went flat. It was an easy fix though. Turn the key to the position before the dash lights go on, wait 10 sec and start the car. This is certainly not the case this time.

I have tried 3 different working keys to no avail..

Cheers!

Just checked (again), the fuel filter plunger is solid like normally.

Hi,

Mine is a 2000 registered Terrano. My temporary reset instructions in the user manual give the following if the NATS has malfunctioned.

1 Leave the ignition key in the ON position for approximately 15 min.

2 After the theft warning indicator (flashing light on top of dashboard) has gone off, turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.

3 Wait for 5 seconds.

4 Start engine.

"This will have to be repeated every time you start the vehicle until the NATS is reset by an Nissan dealer"

Might be worth a go :nenau

That is certainly worth a try! Thank you for that mate :) Will try tomorrow.

So the fuel is there ready to go then by the looks of it, the pumps just not doing it's job.

Hope you don't have to end up going to a dealer to get the NATS reset :doh

Yes indeed. The Glow plug relay is not getting any power and the pump is also not being activated/working.

I certainly hope I will not have to do that, because I am far from a Nissan dealer. The closest +250 km.. Transport will be expensive.

Cheers!
