Engine Not Starting, Glow Plug Light Not On

from re reading posts again i would be trying a direct feed from battery to relay and see if it starts.if it does the fault could be the main ignition switch modual that the ignition key turns,not the barrel but right at the end of the key.
as you have tested all big fuses,relay,glow plug bar it does not leave much except the wire feed from modual to relay.

That would be my next shout!! :thumb2

Problem not solved yet though. I can see in the diagram (Power Supply Routing) that there should be a "10A Glow" fuse somewhere. Does anybody know where it is located?

I have already tested the 75A main fuse in the black box in the engine compartment.

When the ignition is on is there power at the glow plug relay ?
If not then the problem might lie between the relay and the power from the ignition.
Is it possible that the glow plug relay power has its own wire from the ignition switch and the fault lies there.
If it is an ignition switch issue often some pulling and pushing of the key can make the connection.
Other thing is has the fault started out of the blue or have you done some work to the vehicle that could have disturbed something ? Had the steering column cowl off etc.

Just a thought.

No power on the glow plug relay with ignition on. This occurred out of the blue. Car started fine, the next morning no glow plug lamp. Starter motor is turning but the car does not start.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly..

With the battery installed as usual, I should try and give the relay 12V directly from the battery and then see if the glow plug light comes on, or if the car starts? I tested the relay again today and it work fine when I give it 12V.

Same principle then, you've already done what we're asking you to do.

So you have an issue with the feed somewhere further back than the relay.

You handy with a multimeter?

this is one of them its got my head scratching things.
put live to relay feed in from battery.
if relay works fault feed to relay somewhere.
its a process of illemiation that takes though and patience,work back from rail with ign on as it stays live for a fair while but reset ign if you are a bit slow.

Me? I'd like to get it running to make sure it actually can run. Surely if its cranked over enough it will fire up without glowplugs.
Is it possible to heat a plug or two straight off the battery?

Here is a pic of the glow plug connector, the white/blue wire goes to the relay, and the white wire that feeds the relay (no pic) goes direct to the battery via a fuse in the loom, for test purposes if you pull this plug and run a temporary wire from the + battery to the fixed connector, this will fire the glow plugs, and the engine should start no problem,

This is the "fuse" it is really a calibrated bit of wire in a heat proof sleeve, check this for overheated connectors, it is just behind the radiator reserve bottle, (on UK models) this is a Zexel pumped vehicle but is the same on Bosch, Rick

Really awesome Solarman :thumb2 I will try that ASAP. Right now It's pouring down rain... Maybe it will get the car running, giving me time to figure out what the fault is.
