Engine Management Light On

Hi all, got a problem with the project truck that my wife drives. Typical not a great deal that I can do at the moment so I’m getting frustrated with this situation. I feel so useless at the moment.
The EML came on yesterday whilst she was out, still on even after parking up and restarting.
Before the EML she noticed that twice yesterday it took a bit more starting than normal.
I do know that the glow plug relay terminals need cleaning or replacing as I saw this a while ago but wasn’t able to do a great deal and seemed to be working fine until now. Just wondering if this could throw up an error?

I’m hoping that one of my sons can read the codes later as per download but any advice before hand will be appreciated.

Hard to say if the two are related until the code/codes have been read.

Right my son has read the codes and cleared them down for me.

18 fuel quantity adjuster/position sensor

25 fuel quantity adjuster circuit malfunction

47 crankshaft position sensor

My son has now cleared the faults and have asked my wife to drive the truck around this week and see how it goes. I suspect it’ll be fine failing that an expensive Crankshaft Position Sensor I reckon.

Cheers pal, got to wait until car and my son gets home. Unfortunately I can’t even lift the bonnet at the moment, feels so frustrating being so dam weak.

I’ll find out one way or another tonight. Feel bad not even being able to open bonnet on my own car.

Just had a look whilst someone else opened the bonnet. The MAF is a Hitachi so not too sure what type of sensor it will be.
Good news is that the light has stayed off today but I suspect it will come back on.

That makes it a Zexel pump and the sensor is on the top of the timing case, Audi A3 sensor fits with a spacer washer, about £10 from motorsemus on Ebay, but you do need to cut the plug off yours and graft it onto the Audi one, Rick

Ok cheers Rick, so far since clearing the fault log the light has not come back on so urgency has gone for now. I reckon it’s something I need to sort this summer before it fails again.
Banshee, have you had any luck mate?

Right guys, this fault has reared its head again.

Fuel filter was changed and all seemed fine but wife has now said it’s back and I was a passenger in car this morning and witnessed it.

Engine was warm as it had already been out. Started engine and it was almost like key was turned straight off so had to restart and it was fine. Then about ten minutes later it had a big stutter and carried on as normal this time without MiL but apparently this behaviour would normally light the MIL.

Will ask my son to read the codes when he gets home.

Well this turned out to be a combination of two problems.

Firstly the Crankshaft Position Sensor was faulty, thanks to elty for selling me one:clap

Secondly had different lights flashing intermittent usually when engine warm and being restarted. This turned out to be the high power terminals of the glow plug relay, well the connector on the wiring loom. Had to replace the terminals which resolved the other problems.

Had also had a fault that I thought was the regulator in the alternator, the dashboard lights were flickering on tick over. The relay terminals appear to have fixed this issue too.
