Used the truck on Monday, it started OK and had no issues with the engine at all.
Started it this morning and it fired and seemed to be running, but not on all cylinders, then it started to smoke from the exhaust, still running rough.
Next the oil light came on and then the EML all the time it was smoking and running rough.
Tried it now I'm home and it's still running lumpy and not revving freely, it's still smoky and the smoke stinks like it's unburnt and smells like paraffin.
The oil light has gone out, but the EML came on again
It was not cold this morning and I let the glow plug light go out as I always do.
Any ideas :nenau

Could be air leaking in via the filter or pipes:nenau the 3L in known for the oil light coming on due to faulty sensors (hi & low pressure)

But would it suddenly go from running normal to the way it's running now, I've had no issues prior to today :nenau.
The oil light went out tonight.

Running lumpy even when hot suggests an injector has failed/blocked, crack of each injector pipe in turn till the one that makes no difference, this will be the bad injector, Rick

exactly, this is fuel that has passed the cylinder without bunning because the injector is not atomising just squirting so will not burn but when it meets the hot exhaust from the other cyls it turns to vapour, Rick

Thanks Rick, would an injector suddenly go or would you notice it breaking down.

Sounds like Rick is on the money yet again!!!!

All the best with it mate, I'm sure you'll get it sorted one way or another, I hope it's a cheap fix for you bud :thumb2

Ricks diagnostics are usually pretty good:thumb2

Reading the codes will always help though, if you swing by my work on Saturday we can plug in for you if you like :thumbs

43 off the top of my head

Let me have a look, they are all in the last page of the workshop download

.................

21, 34 and 94 are the only codes specific to injector problems

Dont forget this is a ZD30 and will differ in some ways, eg there is no needle lift sensor on No1 inj.

Oops, good call Ray, I'm about to drop you another PM mate, I still cannot get this 16 PIN Consult stuff working, I've even had one of my mates look at it who has been in the car diagnostics business for years and he couldn't suss it, we followed your instructions to the T and it still will not read the sensors on the car.

I've crocodile clipped onto the relevant 14 pin pinouts and ensure they are not touching by using boots and I have soldered pins onto the other end and plugged straight into the 12v, Ground, TX and RX and nothing, even when swapping TX and RX around, Green Light flashes on the consult but not a peep :(
