Last Friday I did some running around in the terrano and all was well.
Saturday morning I filled up with fuel at the local Texaco garage and since then the engine is really noisy and my tick over has dropped from 700 rpm to 600.
I first thought that the exhaust had started to blow with it suddenly getting noisy but have checked it from end to end and all is well.
Got me thinking that maybe this is a crappy batch of fuel:nenau

It happens, if you have the facilities I would drain it out bar a couple of Ltrs enough to get you to a different fill point and put say 20 Ltrs in and try it out if it comes back to normal I would be issuing a hard complaint to the garage with the info that you have their crap fuel in a container at home so can prove it is your fuel that is making my engine bad, (assuming you still have the receipt) Rick

Quick shot of Redex or 2T oil ?

If you add some two stroke oil it will raise the burn temperature of the diesel this will often fix the problem by helping the engine burn off the crap. As a side effect it raises your engine compression temporarily as well.

Alternative but more expensive is to add some Diesel Additive by the likes of Redex.

Cheers Rick:thumb2
My next step over the weekend is drain some fuel out,let it settle and see if it looks bad.
Doubtful that I will have the receipt.
It might be in the door pocket along with all the other junk.

I've heard this issue before and Tesco was the culprit then too.

Filled up at Texaco Pete not Tesco:lol
Yeah I've heard stories about the quality of supermarket fuel.
It's a bio/ derv blend I've read somewhere.

I've heard about adding the two stroke to the fuel.
Got to be worth a try.
Wouldn't mind so much but I put £50 in so I've got 3/4 of a tank to burn through:(

Oops that'll learn me to post pissed

Did you get anywhere with the running mate?

yeah i think iv'e sussed it:thumb2
Ran the tank right down as far as i dare, gave it a full service, oil, air and fuel filters and filled up 1/2 a tank from the shell garage.
Filled the filter up with Redex when i assembled it and gave it a good run to Derby and back.
Seems to be back to it's former self:nenau

Yep, classic case of crap fuel. Cant go wrong with Shell.

Glad you sorted it :thumb2

There’s still a lot of people that will argue that there’s no difference between supermarkets and filling stations. I ran a couple of tanks of v power petrol in the skoda and went back to supermarket fuel and noticed a difference straight away.

I've noticed a difference after I stopped using morrisons fuel, I didn't stop on purpose it just happened that I used an esso for a couple of weeks. I noticed an increase in performance and put it down to the fuel. Hard to prove I suppose but I'm inclined to listen to the F1 winner :thumb2

Glad It's sorted mate :thumb2:thumb2

Glad its sorted.
Did the redex make it smoke?

It's surprising but Redex or 2T oil has to be in substantial amounts to make a diesel engine smoke.

In my old r3mR I sometimes put in a litre of 2T oil to a half tank of diesel to give it a flush with no sign of smoke.

In my old Petrol Engined 300TE a full litre of 2T oil to a tank of fuel did not produce any smoke!

Filling the diesel filter with redex when replacing it must have caused a bit of smoke:nenau

I've poured it straight into the carb on my cars in the past, well 30 years ago:doh and had to run to find air to breath:lol

was a bit of smoke but thats nothing new for my old bus.:lol:lol

Years ago when I was involved in a bit of motor tuning, it was always easier to remove a device/or uprated spec and instantly detect the lack of power as opposed to initially adding it and not noticing much of an improvement, Rick
