electrical issue

Stopped the terrano in a car park this evening and all was well.
3 hours later I returned to start it.
The dash lights just flicked on before the start position, then all went out.
She started just fine, no dash lights or wipers.
Stopped and started a few times, on maybe the 4th start all was normal.
Dash lights and wipers worked all the way home.
Have started her a few times since and All is still ok.
Kind of puzzled, is this the start of the ignition switch failing ?

on my first t2, the barrel switch was worn so if turned key at normal speed
would fail to start. found if turned key slowly had time to fire, or connection
to be made.

dont recall a link ti dash issues but those were the basic ones, suppose it
could happen with the more modern electronic types.

had that on my t2,ended up putting a new switch at the rear of the barrel.

just recently changed mine as that was making the instruments act in a funny way.

Is it a big job to change the switch ?
Will I need a new key and all that stuff ?

I'm sure the switch is just held onto the ignition barrel by 2 little screws & plugs in under the dash:augie

to get to the switch take off upper and lower covers.lower the steering as low as it will go.get a good light and then use your hand to come in from the rear of the switch on the wiring.once you locate small switch look towards the steering column at a downwards angle and you should find a small self tapping screw with the head to the front of the car ie screws in backwards towards driver seat.this is the screw you need to remove as well as the plug on the back of the switch.once unscrewed a bit of wiggling and it will come off.put back in reverse order.a new nissan one is about £30.00.
i did mine out on a field where i was caravanning and ordered it from nissan near where i was staying.

There are a few on eBay but for the sake of a fiver I got mine from nissan dealer.
Do a search for terrano ignition switch on eBay.
