hi all, having a few problems with my truck, started yesterday when it struggled to start, got all the lights on the dash, then just click, no attempt to turn over, eventually got it started, by repeating the process, until it finally started, did this on three different occasions, then decided that the remote central locking fob doesnt want to work now, so have to lock/unlock with the key, unlocking this way sets the alarm off, goes off after about 15 secs then can start the truck fine(infact, can start truck with alarm going), and now the speedo has stopped working!

HELP please!

Oh bugger, join the electrical club.

Let's takr a step back with yours, can you remember the last time it was fine to the first time it played up.

On a quick glance I would guess either ign barrel key coding lost, or a NATS fault, if not a low voltage or knackered battery issue :thumb2

Sounds like the switch on the bottom of the ignition barrel is on its way out.
The reason why your fob won't work is because you have probably put it into program mode by repeatedly turning the ignition on and off.
There is a workshop down load on how to re program the fob.

Did it to mine when the switch gave up the ghost.
When starting be really gentle when turning the key for the starter to kick in.

Oh and as mentioned before, trying to start the truck 3 times with a dodgy key can lock the system so I have been told, someone will explain I'm sure :thumb2

As long as you use the same key as you always have to start you will be fine.
It's when you try to start it without a transponder key that will happen.
Central locking fob and transponder key are different systems.
Also to stop the alarm going off when using the key to unlock the door pop the bonnet and remove the rubber and plunger off the bonnet that presses the switch for the alarm when the bonnet closes.
This is on the driver side On mine.
This is only a temporary fix to stop the alarm setting when you lock the door.

both my fobs stopped working so i unlock door and get key in ignition and turn to start and alarm goes off then turn key to off.
tried fob reprogram but did not work for me.got new batt so will try again.

ok, so i reprogrammed the fob using the workshop manual, and it still doensnt want to work, and the speedo still isnt working!

have not bothered to read the other posts, but recon you have a bad battery/earth connection, this if left will lead to spikes causing drop outs on your system, such as now the plip does not work, not the best of explanations I know but the accurate none the less, if you want to chat about it in real time PM me for my phone number, Rick

fitted new battery about 6 weeks ago, but will check connections tomorrow in the daylight

Mine was a combination of both.
Bad battery which I got changed as it has a 3 year warranty on it and new ignition switch.
Also gave all the main conecters and cables a good going over, cleaned and greased up the earth points and touch wood has been fine ever since.

right, still having issues, went out on friday, and the alternator died, so i thought that maybe all the above was to do with that... new alternator fitted today, and still cannot lock/unlock with the remote, and still sets the alarm off when unlocking with the key, and the speedo isnt working still either

ok, so i went to the car this morning, and hey presto, the remote fob is now working again! :nenau
