Ebay where else.So where do you get a 150 amp alternator from please?
you can get some cracking switches for boats to switch between battery banks, two or three way.
the split charge unit is simply a large diode on a heatsink, you can make one for about £25 if you get a 100A diode from RS components or Farnell........
Ebay where else.
I know they do it that way on boats but it means you need to have your alternator regulator reset to account for the voltage drop across the diode otherwise you don't get a full charge in your battery. It also means you have to use a separate isolator to reconnect the batteries if you ever need to jump start yourself off your secondary battery. Least thats the way my oldman does it on his Broom.
Usual practice with 4x4s is to use a voltage sensing relay. This will trigger only at say 13.6volts when a decent charge is already in the primary battery and then it will charge the secondary too. Some have the facility to manually (but still electrically) over ride them so you can either disconnect or connect them as needed.
