Thinking of doing away with viscous and fitting thermostat in rad pipe to switch electric fan on now first question top or bottom rad hose? And what are the internal diameter of the rad pipes? I've got a nice flat fan that'll fit nice

Lets see some pics of the fan bro :naughty

Ebay item number bud. 281775713575 14" push or pull fan

Awesome idea with twins but cant find the twin element thermostat as brill idea

my brother has fitted a twin speed kenlow 17"to his pj it sorted out towing heating problems his twin wire sender is sent to a dual variable thermostat near his rad and set to come on at ? then boost at ?.anyway it works well.

The download is awesome and wanna do exactly that as twin set up is def way to go but need to find that thermostat as thats the easiest way

I could use the one I stole from the air con rad that I painted and fitted onto the cab guard for those very hot days :thumb2

I'm looking at the thermostats that have a dial and a probe that sits in fins on rad as a possible for a single fan set up that way you can set it to any temp to come on

Did a twin fan set up on my old terrano when the viscous one exploded.
I used a variable control like this.
Can't remember what size fans I used
Also had an override switch so I could put them on manually :thumb2

the thermostat you used the one where probe goes into fins of rad

just seen from ya pics it was but you did the option of putting it into the pipe and silicone round the joint lol just ordered the thermostat similar to yours and 14" fan if I find I need a second one ill add it later but don't reckon ill need it

I ran mine for a while with a single fan but as the weather got warmer I fitted a second one.
It was my intention to fit a second stat so the second fan kicked in at a higher temperature but I sold the truck before I got round to doing that.
I don't do alot of heavy towing but when I did have the trailer on the temp never rose over half way.

contrary to popular opinion the stat needs to go in the bottom hose/rad as this is the time the fan needs to come on ie when the return is getting hot, needs to be set low say 50c job done, Rick

I put an electric fan on the blitz, I used a radiator from a Peugeot 205 and screwed the stat in to it from a Vauxhall cavalier as it has the cav engine. I put in a override switch as well in case I ever thought it was needed & was advised to be able to override the stat to keep the fan off for wading but I never had the guts to do it as you only have to forget to switch it back on once. I just avoid deep water.

I remember you mentioning that before Rick, this was the set up on my old terrano.
I fitted the temp sensor as per the manufacturers instructions but remember you saying that you will get a more accurate temperature reading from the bottom hose.

I remember back along rick saying use bottom hose. My viscous went wrong about three months ago so screwed it tight so always spins but with these cold mornings and 5 mile trips to work it isn't warming up and also off roading its blocking my rad with mud with the constant pull through rad so thinking electro is the way forward
