Ok, i have now come to the point i hoped i would escape.

I have to remove the EGR valve and blank it off, it looks like it is stuck open and this is whats been causing me the problems for the last 15 months of it running rough at low revs.

My question is, has any one done this ? how much work is involved and what do i need to remove to get at the EGR.

Any photos would be great as iv have not done this job yet and dont want to work blind.

The only bit in the down load section is how to block the pipe off, i need to remove the EGR altogether.

Over to you guys.....:thumbs

i have had both of my egr valves removed on my isuzu bighorn 3.1 tdi ... the difference wasnt immediate , but very quickly i noticed more power /smoother running and turbo seemed to spool up quicker , i know my truck isnt a t2 , but maybe similar results ? :nenau

LOL, thats not really helping me how to do it though is it Briggie? :doh

Im doing it cos i have a juddering at low revs, i have tried everything i can think of to cure it, this is the last thing. Im hoping its because the EGR is stuck open a little as it dont do it if im giving it the beans. But its a pain in the ass when im roading and i need low revs to control what the truck is doing.

Just blank it off, makes no odds then and saves dealing with the rest of the pipe work.
Have a look on the manuals and you'll see where it is, just under the inlet manifold near the bulkhead. It's a fiddle to get the bolts out but nothing needs taking out to get to it :thumbs

What metal to blank ? Like would a coke can be ok lol ? Or sommit like 4 mm plate better ?

Bit of alu works well but any old plate I guess, maybe not quite as thin as coke can though :lol

im interested in this too,
abit more power is always helpful,

youll have to do a thread on this with piccies if you do it:thumb2

Double coke can it is :D

Be aware that a coke can is aluminium, and has a lower melting point than steel, and the agressive gases might blow through the thin metal.

Maybe a steel biscuit tin lid would be better.:nenau

I'm kidding about the coke can ;)

Well best to make it clear to other members, just in case, you never know.:thumb2

There was a thread a few months ago, where a member was going to make a few plates, as he saw one on ebay for quite a price.

EGR Blanked off !.

What a day, its been a right basxxrd to do. I am never doing another one, :lol

I found out a few things doing it too.

1, Remove the Intercooler, it makes light work in the end.
2, Dont blank off both sides of the EGR, theres no point and it wont line back up very well.
3, Dont use hermitite, it gets every where.
4, Dont leave tools in the work area if your not using them, they hide!
5, Dont through the spaner away when the bolt slips and you hit your hand, you only have to stop what your doing and go pick it back up.

If you remove the intercooler, you can move the heating pipes out of the way, gives you much better access.
Take the drivers side wheel off.
Remove the rubber on the inner wheel arch that stop crap going onto the engine, you can access the bottom bolts from there pretty easy.

I did a video of how to do it, its not great but it may help some.
I have to join it altogether then i will upload it to YouTube.

And the end result.........

It did not cure the problem!

Its still juddering at low revs. :doh

I'd forgotten about the rubber liner things/plastic inner wing stuff :lol Not been on mine since day one, so I just assume it's a quick reach up from under neath :)
Are you geting any smoke while it's running rough?

No it runs smoke free, no one has said any different when were out laning either.
Im starting to think maybe the MAF could be playing up, but dont want to blow the mortgage in buying one to find out its not that.

There no Banjo filter, alrady looked there. All fillters have been swaped trying to find cause. it only dose it under load, not free reving. Could the turbo be on its way out?

Turbos seem pretty reliable and wouldn't be doing anything at low revs.
What maf have you got, I could lend you an Hitachi one for test if you want.:thumb2
Any mil action? When it's running right unplug the maf and see what happens, try again when it's running ruff;)
