Hi folks

My Terrano 2, 2.4 petrol is running very lumpy. I have checked for cracks in the manifold & linkage to the exhaust down pipe and have found no cracks or blowing. Reading through previous threads I hear a lot about faulty EGR sensors, could this be the problem? If so could someone please post a photo/diagram of what it looks like and where it is?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I can't find it.

Thanks in anticipation!

EGR isn't a sensor its a system - exhaust gas recirculation. Basically it bleeds off some of the exhaust and feeds it into the inlet to be reburnt again. Is supposed to help emisssions but only when working perfectly and even then only under test conditions. It was a fiddle used by manufacturers to get around new tighter emmissions control regulations.

Anyway on the petrol its dead easy to check if its causing a problem. If you look at the exhaust you'll see a metal pipe about 15mm dia coming away from it this leads to a rubber pipe. Just clamp the rubber pipe closed with something. Molegrips will do if you don't have proper pipe clamps, just pad the jars with a bit of cardboard.

If it runs better like that you know to do somethig more permanent, if it doesn't you can take the clamp off.
