Well the jobs been done, the manifold has been cleaned out, the mechanic decided to blank off the egr and he test drove it and it seemed fine but later that evening the eml came back on so he's going to adjust the VNT screw and hopefully its all sorted, the original code was for a boost issue and turned out to be caused by a hose that kept collapsing (it didn't look like it was the correct part anyway, it looked more like heat shrink!)
My mate hasn't had much of a chance to drive it as he works away all week but hopefully there will be a marked improvement, especially after all the bodging the other so called mechanic did,
Anyway thanks for all the advice and if the NADS mods are needed he'll know where to come.

Yes hopefully all sorted now, he's also had all the fluids changed etc so should be good for a while now.
