Is it any wonder the ba5tard5 don't get my business?

Daughter took her little C1 in for 20k service this morning, started off at £180, reasonable so far....

Then the phone rings; needs two new front tyres @ £60. EACH!

Oh and a wiper plade (only uses one) - a snip at £39!!:eek:

And we nearly forgot, needs new pads AND disks at a piffling £300+.:eek::eek:

So after pointing out that I could get a pair of tyres for that price, plus a wiper for £15 from Halfrauds, oh and that I'm not worried that new pads (which will be £50 from ATS fitted) might take a bit longer to bed in if the disks aren't smooth as silk, it all went very quiet at the other end.

If they'd offered to accommodate me in some way I might have negotiated, but not a flicker. Utter w*nkers.

No wonder business is in the state it is when folks are so greedy.

, it's disgusting the prices these garages charge, it's a shame people have to use these them, they would soon notice the reduction in trade, i dont know the hourly rate now but i assume it's around £50+ an hour. and i know of 3 mobile mechanics and all 3 are fully booked for 3-4 weeks which tells me people are getting fed up being taken for a ride. :augie :naughty

Personally I think £39 for wiper blades is just fine ;)

stick a 1 in front of that if you've got a premium motor....at £50/hr I'd almost be happy Tez.

But ask you, I know pads are not as soft as they used to be since they stopped using asbestos but worn out disks on a 20,000 mile motor? Cheeky beggars..

And how long before the EU brings in a law to make it illegal to work on your own car?

Stating that only licensed mechanics are allowed to do repairs.............. one year? two

maybe, I can see it coming. regards bri

100% correct. Not long before the person selling you ANY product will have to have completed a course, particularly regarding tools ,so they can sell you the correct one. Next step is, if our staff have to be trained to sell the product, surely it makes sense that anyone using the productshould be trained also. That will bring about the situation you described. The days of hiring a mini digger without showing a ticket are gone, used to get a few minutes from the guy in the hire shop, now I don't think they'll hire stuff without seeing a ticket.:(

a ticket? what do you mean Liam?

i'm having the same trouble.

My Mav went in for MOT, and apart from needing a new CKP sensor which I new about, i figured it would sail due to no previous advisories and a near perfect history. Gave it a good once over before taking it in, and it fails on £7/8 hundred quids worth of stuff, of which most of that was labour. As most of you know, I took it home and didnt pay. Now I hav ebeen forced to seek high and low for help, have a member from here hopefully doing the two spots of welding Sunday, then I will get it MOT'd, then a mobiel mechanic to do any parts required, I suspect total cost will not be £7/8 hundred. Sick of it. £60 a tyre for a C1?? Heres an example, I also have a mazda mx6, with 17" OZ alloys and low profile tyres. These cost me £28 EACH, £10 fitted and balanced.

Don't you need certification to drive machinery over there? Thought you lot invented it. You probably call it a chit or licence:doh
Nope, just the five minutes with the hirer like you said.....and you lot invented navvies for crying out loud! Some H&S plonker wants sorting out there Liam.

Says it all doesn't it, Camskill can do Kumhos or Falkens (both good tyres) for the C1 for £26 each........good news about the welding though Clivvy, be glad to see this thing back on the road for you!:thumb2

My daughters Seat Ibiza 1.4 54 plate with 25,000 on clock..Cat has gone!! got a quote from tyre fitters we use £240 arrived this morning not the right one its got 2 cats on it and two sensors, so I took it up to our friendly Seat dealers who she has been paying to service it etc, and said it was unaceptable that it should go just out of warranty and with so few miles on clock, they quoted £1070 fitted but they would knock off £50 as a good will gesture!!!! Not interested at all, that price is a 3rd of what she paid for the car!! Now after phoning round all afternoon for quotes etc it looks like it is a main dealer part only..so they got us all ends up fooking W*****s!!!!!
Just thought I'd share that..MOT due in Feb so does anybody know of any good catalylic converters places that might be able to supply us with one??
I cant beleive it's a dealer only part after all its now 5 years old!!
Cheers Rich

Rich,

If the motor has been fully serviced you wana look into taking out your own warrenty on it... something like warrenty direct. Get it covered (check they will cover that part - without tellin them its knackered) then ring them a few days later and tell 'em its buggered? Worth a try??? :nenau

Liam - we do have 'tickets' over here, you need to produce it to hire plant machinery (mini diggers etc)

I'm assuming though this refers to the big toys, I was only thinking mini-diggers which seem to be exempt from this as I'd expect them to be TBH?
