Thanks for the info Andrew, did think i was goin ga ga, as a T2 owner this function is not on my vehicle, but makes interesting reading. incidentally have you ever de-activated the ARB? If so was there a noticeable difference in the ride.

I haven't yet tried it on-road - but practically that may not be possible anyway as the arb is reconnected at any speed above 12mph. Off-tarmac there is no noticable difference in the ride. I simply take it on trust that demounting the arb will increase wheel articulation, but I haven't yet tested that. I do, though, tend have it disconnected it when greenlaning - or at least on anything that looks remotely like an axle twister, so yes, I do use it.

Whilst I have a 3 ton Sealey trolley jack, I'm not sure that the lift is high enough to get a rear wheel off the ground by jacking under a chassis rail - so I might not easily be able to measure the difference in articulation. When the weather improves, I'll try it.

Cheers
Andrew

I see that the guy with the Yellow Landie has been sent down for two years then.

I've read this thread with interest and while I fully accept that removing ARBs has off-road benefits with improved articulation (oddly enough, exactly what they are designed to prevent on-road), with a vehicle thats already got a high centre of gravity its not something I'd personally want to do for on-road driving. Its interesting that the Patrol has switchable ARB's (not sure how that works though!) and that the handbook advises not to disengage them on-road.

I guess the acid test is what might happen if you had to emergency brake and swerve at the same time; OK so ABS might get you out of the clag, but if you were then involved in a serious accident, I wouldn't want to be stood up in court trying to challengethe police accident investigators report, which I suspect would zero in on any such modification.

Just my four-pence worth...each to their own!

will removal of rear arb make that much difference to articulation as the lsd will aid
or mask it anyway.

if you have sot springs and an arb to cancel then hd springs and no arb will bw almost
same.

think now i need maximum tugability the mods will remain limited to those which do
not reduce it. may move to muds next time and improve angles of entry breakover and
departure. perhaps make steps quick release? remove towbar for offroad work, maybe
trim front bumper or if when damage replace with slimline winch style.

the rear arb off gives you loads more flexiblity and if you leave the front on its not noticable that much on the road , but you really need the back off if you want to have fun

ive tried all ways... and front off too does effect breaking stopping time and road holding not that you feel its going to go over but it does lean a fair bit.
i coulnt comment on other parts wearing out faster as im giong back to just the back off... but i can see the argument for that definatelly

ive been driving around with a broken rear arb and i never even noticed any difference in body roll or handling/breaking etc.
have got stiffer springs fitted so thats probably why i couldn't tell.:nenau
this is the first 4x4 ive owned which has got arb's fitted as standard mainly to increase on road ability but saying that most of my miles are done off road.
got the m.o.t next month so will see what his take is on the subject.
