Your budget is £500 - £1000

Your mission is to find the most economical car...

I was thinking KA, Clio, Polo, Micra...

Wanted for possible mega mileage if new job comes off...

pug 406 2.0 hdi regulary gave 50mpg

or what about that jag from the eco trip from top gear

why not get a isuzu bighorn lotus edition ? ..... they do millions of miles to a gallon and never break down :augie

by a cheap metro and put it on LPG should get loads of miles for you pennies lol

i thought you was doing the breaking thing this year or you already given up on that

as i cant a micra towing a 4x4 down motorway lol

Dont do giving up & the 4x4 breakers will be up & running & hopefully be my main & only job by the middle of the year :D

find yourself an early 1.7 td Astra or Vectra and drive it slowly. I used to get 800 miles off a 60 litre tank keeping to 60mph max and I didn't feel like I was getting there any slower.

get that ka and do this

Seen it & been in it @ K.O.R.C. :thumbs

Rover 200/400/220 hatch estate...etc. With a years ticket on it.
50+ MPG and plenty of them out there in the price range.

im a old man , and ive had a thunk ( yes i can think ) ..... of all the cars ive owned which one was the cheapest and most reliable to run ........simple answer is a vw polo 1.1 litre hatchback .......we filled it up to go to blackpool from here ( about 90 miles ) ....... when we got to blackpool i looked at the fuel guage...... it had moved a needles width :thumb2

Economy

I agree with kebkl.I had a 406 2l hdi as well and if I was carefull got 55/60 mpg on run.Never less than 40mpg in town. When a replaced the xhaust with a Powerflo it pulled like a train and gave me a regular 55mpg.Comfy too.

The missus runs a little 1.3ltr V-Reg corolla. She does 500+ miles a week and it's never broken down once and I worked out the other day it was returning 55-60 on her daily commute!

MPG that is!

nice little car

Up to about 6 months ago my wife used a Peugeot m reg 106 diesel 62 mpg 1500 cc best, 1400 was a BL engin and they were rubbish.

illy

Whilst a mini is out of it for mega miles and a jag out of it for economy why dont you approach this slightly differently as economy cars will be fetching quite a premium at the mo I would have thought.

Work out how much money youve got to spend then have a look at how much a car you like would cost to run for the mileage youre planning. People get far too hung up on mpg. My missus car returns phenomenal mpg but cost her £18 000 !!!

You may be able to buy a big or boring motor dead cheap although it'll cost you a tad more in fuel but at the end of the day has cost you the same per mile.

Take into account everything like cost of exhausts , tyres and insurance.

Ive done that a few times and had some pretty good cars :thumb2

Good example of getting it wrong was me with the jeep, tyres turned out to be pricey (i didnt check thoroughly), got it right with the Seat i had, dead cheap to insure not wildly economical fuel wise but fast as hell to drive (golf 16v engine) and dead cheap to buy and service :thumb2
