As title, want some good oil with the correct spec, what's good and recommended, I do change my oil at short intervals.. Thanks.

I have a local shop that sells Comma oil and I use the semi synthetic. It's not a hugely expensive brand so I change it every 4 to 5 thousands miles.

10w40 semi synthetic is what I use bud, was recommended by Nissan in a service bulletin.

I've got Comma in the Trol just now.

My engine isn't fussy but if it was I wouldn't listen to it anyway :D
2 reasons I use comma. Someone here pointed me in the direction of their website and the shop round the corner stocks loads of it.

Engine oil analysis.

Out of interest when we have a Mercedes Engine failure when vehicle is in warranty we take a sump oil sample that has to be sent to MB. If oil fails the test they charge for the engine.

We were stitched up a few years back when an E63 AMG came into the dealership with a broken con rod. It was not a customer of ours but vehicle had service history and was well within the warranty period.

Engine oil test passed and new unit fitted under warranty.Old engine shipped to Germany. A couple of weeks later report came back that engine failure was due to hydraulic water flood damage.
Warranty was refused we had to stand the cost - circa £13k we could not trace customer due to registered keeper having been paid out by insurance company and vehicle had been sold as salvage.

There are some smart operators out there !!

Well that's not quite true is it ?? Otherwise there wouldn't be different grades, I am sure if a claim was made via a warrenty when vehicles are new and it had the wrong stuff in I bet they wouldn't pay out... But I see your point in older engines.....just wanted to see if there was a preferred oil in these units as they age...that's all.

I worked with compressors for a while and the manufacturers put dye in the oil. Very simply it's to generate income through the service contracts as sale prices are so competitive. Any profit is made from servicing costs, I never saw a warranty claim so I can't comment on rejections due to wrong oil.
I do tend to agree with Rick on this in general.

So with this in mind one oil will do everything then, wonder why they make different grades, I will use my lawnmower engine oil then...hehehehehehe:thumb2

we have different grades to suite different environmental areas, but as we do not really have extremes of temperature differences in the UK, one grade is good enough a 10W 40 is all you need all year round but the oil people want you to buy more oil, ie change your oil for winter conditions, then back again for summer, so when did you last see -10 or plus 30 in the UK? now if you were in a -40 area with the same oil starting could well be a problem, Rick

I use 10w40 in my 3.0, does the job for me :thumb2 In the hand book, it says to use other grades, but I stick with 10w40
