Hi.
we have booked a holiday at New Beach holiday resort between Hythe and Dymchurch just down the coast from Dover.
will be coming down the M1 to M25 which way around the M25 would be the best route. not to bothered about distance just pleasant drive. early on a Saturday morning.
Anyone got any info on the area things to do and see not going till late September.
Using the Vectra so fuel not a problem .caravan 7 nights £145.

anti clock wise is your best bet and avoids the bridge & tolls. :thumb2:augie

ian, it's a good fishing spot as well, shingle beach, so if your into drowning a worm or two, pack your rods mate, the whiting could be showing by then and the odd cod. :clap:thumbs

suspect use more juice and certainly more time anti clockwise
versus toll.

besides get lovely view of thames tidal way from it, a master
piece of engineering.

when we tugged to folkstone, went down a1, then across and
down m11, left onto m25. over qe2 bridge then onto m20?

doddle.

seriously check anti clock wise mileage reckon be about
another 100 miles...

to do,

dover castle,

also excellent viewing point of ferries near by, NT land. right above docks.

canterbury historic town/city.

the rh+d railway down to dungerness.

ramsgate, nice harbour/dock bit riviera style surroundings.

folkstone race course,

channel tunnel rail depot at dollands moor, theres a view point on hill
behind, bit like dover docks like looking down on a model railway!

lots of martello towers, napoleonic defences along coast, like Deal
which was queen mum's residence, or holiday retreat i think.

richborough fort , inland from folkestone area i think a massive
roman fort, ruins. about 5 miles from sea, but in its time was the
coast. english heritage as i recall.

i live quite near the bridge and if anything happens and it does frequently you can be stuck in a jam for hours last one i think was 5-6 hours, lorry fire but had to repair road before they could open road, and you can do a lot of miles in that time, lol it is a good route but it is a nightmare, there are tail backs every day either side of the bridge. pay your money and take a chance

if you have a day out to deal, there is a short pier there and you could buy a half day ticket from tackle shop before you go on pier, it could have changed now, but definitely worth asking. :thumbs

dont they reverse one of tunnels any more then
when bridge shut. thought that was a backup
plan when bridge first opened. ok be queues
still, plus ian suggests early ish saturday.

guess if has radio 2 on and local traffic reports
should be able to suss out any issues as approaches
bottom of m1 and turn left/right accordingly.

what about woolwich ferry if are stuck at lakeside?
done blackwell tunnel solo but not sure about with
tin tent on back, lpg cylinder restrictions? plus
an interesting tour of east london by sat nag...

yes they do reverse tunnels, but if the bridge is closed, they use one tunnel each way and the queues are horrendous, that's why they call it Europe's biggest car park lol, i cant comment on the other tunnels as i don't use them, as you say early Saturday morning should be fine really, and with traffic reports on the radio should see him OK, :thumb2:augie

thanks guys for all the info.
I did think about M1 M42 M40 M25 as i said not to bothered about extra mileage
may go one way and come back another .
We have not been to that neck of the woods so its a bit of an adventure.
The mini railway to dungeness goes right by the camp site so if we can take dogs on it will give it a go.
