After changing from a 2001 mondeo to a round headlight 1998 Nissan Mistral im quite dissapointed in the Mistrals headlight brightness ...

I even upgraded the bulbs a few days ago to Xenon bulbs and still find them pretty poor im comparison to the mondeo .. :(

Any recommendations on improving things or am i stuck with this problem ..

thanks..

dont understand , mine are fantastic , very bright :nenau

What condition are the reflectors in i've upgraded to Xenon bulbs and I burn paint off the motor in front and they are standard legal wattage bulbs

Mine were shown up by candels

Took the lens off & cleaned them, re-sealed with Sika Flex & clips then put in ultra white bulbs :D proper lights :D

Or do a HID conversion which i might do :naughty

Check all ya wiring as it may not be getting full current / power

well i have now tried a repalcement set of H4 Xenon Superbright bulbs in the Mistral and am not happy .. they are not dazzling at all. I can easily stand 15ft back at light level and look at the bulbs no problem. Last night i put the car up to a lightish wall at 20ft and put main lights on and then my small front fogs and the fogs won ... much brighter

Checked the headlights for silver wear and they are very clean so this cant be the problem. Silly question but are the headlight units on imported cars different to UK spec headlight units ?

i dont understand , i have the same vehicle as you , and my lights are great :nenau

Dull headlights

I find all headlights dull but hope one day to meet one with some personality.

hmm .... me neither
check the voltage at THE BULB,.. should be easily in excess of 13 volts with engine running.
Halogen lamp light output falls off very markedly if they are not getting the rated voltage. ( a 12v halogen lamp will give about 60% brightness at 10V)
First check the battery voltage with the engine running, if that's 13~14 volts you should have the same at THE BULB, if not you have some iffy connections somewhere.....

i also have new bulbs to upgrade the Fogs but when i pulled the bulbs out the connector was pretty odd. A 90 degree connector with what looked like hard wired bulb ... anyway couldnt get the bulb out of its socket so left those alone for now ..

ah ..... just noticed , yours is a round headlight model .... mine isnt

My round headlights are useless like yours, I find the small driving lights much brighter, so I use them....bri

do lights get brighter when you rev the engine , if not would suspect fault with electrics / alternator .

No .. the lights stay constant ... i personally think its the headlight design thats at fault.
