Apart from obviously needing a 2nd battery, the cabling and a battery tray what else is involved in a dual battery setup? I'd like to also be able to isolate the 2nd battery from the cabin whilst driving along.

Will this put any excess strain on the alternator?

Has anyone done this and do you have any pics so I can see? :bow

I know fez did it on his last T2 , do a search if you have the tenacity

I did it on my Maverick
Battery over n/s wheel, 40 amp relay [Maplin]
I have pics somewhere watch this space

I used a T-max kit, as I wanted a decent amp rating aswell as voltage readout. Quite expensive, but similar amp rating can be achieved cheaper.

Best bet is to google it. Plenty of decent diagrams out there.

I put the 2nd battery on the other side by the airbox.

me too

id like to do this too. just got another T2, and taking apart my old one, but wanted to use the battery for a dual system like my pajeros (sorry) used to have

Found pic of battery in place

That is how I have mine set up. I did a thread on it. Also have the caravan 12v feed from it and an Anderson connection on the grill for jump leads etc.

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

A variety of reasons, I for instance on my off road motor have winches so it make sense to run these from the second battery without affecting the running of the engine during high amp loadings, caravanner's will wont one so they can run their stuff when parked and know that even if they flatten the second battery the normal start battery is sill safe and able to start in the morning, Rick

CB radio, or radio hams, if you have a super stereo, I have helped a few with flat batteries over the years, they park up, play their music for several hours then don't have enough power to start the engine.

I have also been told that in some places on Cannock Chase people park up at night, with their interior lights on. I have never found out why...:augie

The penny has just dropped... Our old friend Ryan was fitting extra interior lights and a second battery... maybe he... no, surely not...:naughty

:lol:lol:lol

Come back Ryan, all is forgiven. :thumb2

Radio kit, Cool Box and alsorts of stuff.

A word of caution check with your insurance company because it's classed as a mod.

I can run my warning lights, radios etc. without worrying about killing the start battery
