Morning all, quick question for you.

Just had one of my front wheels off the the drop link is totally shot, and i mean not even connected anymore. with no rubber in sight either!

Has anyone got recommendations for new ones?

I'll also be changing the ARB bushes too whilst I'm under there so any advice would be appreciated for sourcing them.

Many thanks.

Smashing thanks,

is it a good idea to use the polyurethane bushes for the ARB or are the rubber ones normally man enough for the job?

Don't forget to check Milner Off Road too, they sell the links and sets of poly bushes. Watch out for cheap links as I have had them in the past that didn't have any way of stopping the ball joint part spinning. Last ones I got from Milners had a alan key fitting so there was no problem tightening the nuts.

By the way there is also a download for guidance replacing the links.

Hmmm, are these the dog's danglies????

They on milner's too??

I'm sure that is just to make up for the size of his manhood :lol:lol:lol

Custom made using rose joints, in theory they should last longer. Wouldn't have a clue where to buy the bits from.

Yeah they're pretty good and wouldn't mind a pair for my truck, make that four for my trucks. Mind you I'm getting paranoid need to make a set of rears for both trucks.

Elty sourced me half of the kit the rest I sorted out myself, the hardest part was getting the misalignment washers from McGills Motorsports and then getting the inserts cut to size to go inside the polybushes

As for the bushes i've fitted poly bushes on both of the T2's i've had as the standard rubber ARB ones don't last 5 mins:doh on my old truck the poly bushes still looked new after 3 years:thumb2

I don't really like them, they went a really weird shape on the Maverick and I got tracking issues with them. I even did the compression rod ones as well :thumb2

This is what Milners ones look like after a few thousand miles on bigger tyres :doh

This was the Maverick before anyone starts shouting at me to repair the CV boot :lol

That's something similar to mine, except it was the downward leg which has .erm..snapped.

What are the long term consequences of it..probably a daft question i know.

is it safe to drive 3 miles or so to a garage?

I only ask as I've got to get the truck in to see if its actually worth getting it back on the road, I'm totally inexperienced with welding and that's what concerns me, I can do virtually anything else.

I would never tell anyone to drive a vehicle with a fault. However if that were mine and I couldn't fix it I would drive it to my local garage. Once the link is replaced the handling does feel better.

Depends on your experience and ability but they are not too bad to replace.

Now you've raised another question, you said "see if it is actually worth getting back on the road" what's up? Tell us more I bet there's few repairs and faults that we haven't collectively come across on here.

Take the windy corners slow and you'll be OK :thumb2

i'll quite happily change the drop links etc, not had a good look under the beast yet but from what i've seen behind the wheels at the front and the bumper mounts i must admit i'm a wee bitty concerned about whats going on under the body!!!

And there is also evidence of a slight oil seep from the passenger side of the engine but checked the oil level and it hasn't dropped by too much. The seep seems to be coming from just in front of the oil filter somewhere. Is this a common fault does anyone know?

The beast has been sat off the road for the last 5 years, right next to the sea! salt laden atmosphere and all that!!

I was extremely surprised when i put a new battery in and she fired up first turn of the key!!

Engine management light came of briefly and the brakes are rather..............sloppy (to say the least!!!)

She was a bit rolly round the corners but i thought at the time it was akin to how she used to handle before but upon reflection its far worse!!

Any way i can stiffen up the ride at all, obviously once I've replaced the drop links and ARB bushes it should get slightly better.

You're not painting it in the best light buddy!!!

If i'd have known the background before hand I would have said run!!!! If it's been parked near the sea, get underneath sharpish and check out that chassis and body thoroughly

When you know that it's not going to turn into a Flintstonemobile any minute then get the fluids and filters changed while you're under there doing the drop links and bushes :thumb2

The Oil leak could be nothing and may just be oil that what spilled when a job was done etc, clean the area and keep an eye on it, could even be a poorly sealed oil filter :nenau

LOL, i'm not really am i!!! I'm sure it'll be alright!!! *cough cough*.

thanks for the advice, I'll be getting myself under there sharpish this weekend.

is Milners the best place to get a filter set from?

I've just spotted their poly bushes...oooh errr!!! they any good?

best type of oil? i think i had 10W40 in there previously. I've read somewhere that non synthetic is better for the older vehicle, is that correct?
