chaps...i find it hard to drive the car slow!! the reaosn being is, the pedal feels a bit stiff, so its hard to smoothly push it down to get a nice steady 10mph speed when driving in busy traffic. The effect i have is a bit jerky, but im 99.99% sure its just the pedal being sticky/stiff.

is there any effective way of cleaning/smoothing the travel of the accelerator pedal??

i have tried giving it a scrub and a clean (in situe) but this didnt make too much of a difference. it isnt squeeky clean still either. I also tried some silicone spray when i cleaned it....

There's only 4 little bolts to oik it out. Get it out and have a good old butchers around and penetrating oil should do the trick.
You may have a stray lollipop stuck in there :lol

Check the accelerator cable hasn't started to de strand.
I had a Mini and the throttle jammed open near traffic lights....
Damn frightening.:doh

I have exactly the same problem and it is very hard to get a nice even throttle at low revs.

Waiting for an easy way out before dismantling the pedal.:doh

Your's is petrol though. Different throttle operation on that. Check mechanical linkage first then perished vac pipes maybe :nenau
Go onto the manual as it has a decent flow chart in the problems sections:thumbs

cheers MakeitFit,

ill spray my penetrating oil all over it first before removing it from the car...with luck, the oil will penetrate.
